What mods...?

Mines an '03 plate 2.5 and I've got a few hundred quid to 'chuck at it'.

Any suggestions on the best mods to start with - looking for both sound and slight BHP increases if possible.

Appreciated in advance!

I'd get it lowered. The 2.5i had non sport suspension. Aesthetics you can buy for a few hundred quid. Power, you cant :(

Remap and a panel filter...

Cheers for the comments...a few people have suggested a replacement panel filter - is there a decent reason not to replace the stock panel with a cold air intake system?

A remap is definitely on the horizon.

Panel filter will get you nothing ( I have one) OEM is perfectly good enough. Cold air intake is likely to reduce power, but increase induction sound (so may sound nicer).

Remap might get a few hp, but not much benefit on well sorted petrols. Expect smoother response but half the advertised hp inc.

If you want noise change the back boxes and fit the 3.0 sound generator.

Not being negative, but Z4's are fairly well sorted and so a few hundred gets not a lot of extra performance in them.

Advanced driving lessons.

You'll learn to use more of the power you have.

Otherwise, just go all out on visual mods. Lower it and space the wheels.

Maybe get it professionally detailed... paintwork will glisten

Shameless plug here but.....I have a full front brakes setup off my 03 53 3.0 (300mm) for sale if you're interested? Take a look at this thread for the details

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=52582

You'll see plenty of threads on here about brake upgrades and reasons for doing it. Mine will be an increase in the size of your standards. and you've got everything to get going. Probably worth buying some nice looking discs in due course but the discs supplied are in v good condition.

I will admit that the best upgrade is the 325mm conversation which is the upgrade i've just done and CJ in the thread above has done. However thats just cost me £450-£500. This will cost you £60 plus postage. I only did the upgrade due to tracking mine otherwise for road use the 300mm setup is plenty.

Sounds interesting Seal3.0, I've read the link you provided.

Would it cause issues having the stock rear set up with just the front upgraded?

I just installed a Gap-tech RCH+ module today and love it. 120 Quid plus shipping. http://gap-tech.co.uk/rchp.html

Sound i'd get an exhaust and sound generator.

Aesthetics lower it and put bigger wheels on it.

The best mod i have on mine has to be the gaptec, i use it all the time!

However the thing which drew me to my car when i first drove it was the chunky M sport steering wheel.... Which came stock in mine.... And others who have fitted it have said transforms the feel of the car!

Not at all because the conversion to larger fronts (E46 330 typically) takes it to the same set up as the post facelift 3.0, with both then using the same rears.

Run it for a few years on mine and a fantastic cheap upgrage when matched to decent pads and discs.

Maybe this is just some random thing you hear from time to time... but doesn't that just lower your roof?????

What is the real point of it?

The standard car can lower it's roof from the key fob already, so I guess I'm missing the point of this cost/"upgrade"

Indeed it is... I had mine recoded to be able to raise if from the keyfob (press and hold the button) however it was temperamental... Stop half way if i move slightly.

The same was with the dropping the roof.

A good example of its use is if i park at work with the roof down, so the car stays cool... Gets cloudy i can raise it with 3 clicks and get on with work.

Also with the one touch... Get in the car, press the button to lower it, and can drive off without waiting and holding the button.

Funny, I keep the roof up to keep the leather cool and the interior away from UV rays when sitting all day.... plus, I guess I'm never in that much of a hurry I can't take the 15 seconds to lower the roof "with the button"

ETTO, thanks for the clarification.

Surprised no one has mentioned the stubby

If you want more sound I took the back box off my 2.5si and it sounds amazing! Cheap mod for the sound gain IMHO.
