What made you buy a Z4?

For me I had a short list of a Z4 Coupe, S2000 and a Vauxhall monaro
had my old car up for sale for 10 weeks with only 1 looker then with the fuel price on the up
out with the Vauxhall then went for PX Honda offered £2500.00 less then BMW so Z4 it was.
But very happy with the out come.
How about you?

I've always wanted a 2-seater sports car. Can't afford the Porsche 911 or Ford GT, don't like the Corvette, Z4 just looked classy and really scoots--so, Z4 it was!

no kiddin. When is he going to realise that having fun and increasing post count is more important that spewing facts, data and proper how-to's?

I spent about a year in 2002/03 looking for my next car. I wanted a true roadster and was looking at the MZ3. I drove an MZ3 and loved it but as my other vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler w/o AC and a winter beater I had to have a reasonable amount of luggage room. Frankly the MZ3 fell a little short for my needs for travel. So I test drove just about anything with 2 seats, 4 wheels and a drop top. I narrowed the field down to the Porsche Boxster and the MZ3. In the end the Boxster lost on looks and the split trunk/boot was also a concern and the local Porsche dealer was one of the worst car dealer in the area and still is.

So I decided to deal with the MZ3 trunk/boot space problem with a luggage rack and in Sept or Oct of 2002 I went into the dealer to place an order for a MZ3 roadster in topaz blue. I was too late as production was being switched over to the Z4 and a MZ3 like I wanted could not be found. I saw some picture of the Z4 but did not like them so I gave up for the time being. In January at a local car show I actually saw a Z4 and really like it. What a difference from the pictures. I found out that a 3.0i version was in the works with a 6 speed and decided to wait until the local dealer had one for a test drive. That did not happen until April and I also drove a 3.0i with auto. The next day I went in and purchase my first Z4. A 3.0i with sport package & six speed.

I've always loved two seat roadsters. My Dad was always infatuated with them, and would point them out to me while on the road so that's probably where it started. I learned how to drive manual on my friend's Nissan 200SX (he still blames me about having to replace that clutch). We always had a blast driving around without the T-tops off, and I knew I had to have a car like that someday. When I was in high school my Dad bought a Mazda Miata, and he he still has it 15+ years later. When I got out of college and had a decent job I got a z3 which was fun for awhile. Honestly, when I saw the pictures of the z4 it wasn't an instant attraction, mainly because I remember seeing some spy shots that I liked the looks of a little more (I think I still have them somewhere). Once I saw the car in person I liked the looks of it a lot better, and a few years later I upgraded. Not before I test drove a Boxster and a S2000 first. The z4 trumped them all.

I too have always loved two seaters. Started many years ago with an MGB roadster, then more MGs Porsche 924s, Triumph Spitfires, Fiat X19, Nissan 260Z and eventually an MGF. Then went up market with a Honda S2000, fantastic car so where to from there??

Well I really tried to like the Lotus Elise but it was too basic and awkward for my advancing years. The Porsche Boxster left me cold on looks and driving although it was a supremely efficient drive. Eventually went for Z4 as it has an unbeatable combination of looks, kit, performance and badge. My first was a 2.5 sport and I loved it to bits, what could possibly tempt me away

The price of a 6 month old 'M' roadster of course!!! I am still staggered by what a basic, exciting 'old school' car this is. I have no idea what will replace it eventually and as I don't have 911 or Aston money it will probably all be downhill from here!

Interesting! Lots of you like the car in the flesh but not so much in the pictures form. :?
I wonder what BMW would make of that.

I wanted something fast and that could corner on rails. I couldn't afford anything better (unless I went way older-which has all kinds of other problems) so I went with this. I wasn't much impressed by pictures until I saw it in RL first, then said I have to have this car.

i wanted something that was fast, classy, nice looking, and eye catching. i also wanted something to reward myself after puttin' in some hard work over the past few years. i wanted to build up my credit report in a worthy fashion and now.. my next buy is a house!!!

car payments are bittersweet.. but in the end... i have a nice ride and a nice house in the near future!!!

Three reasons:

1) The looks
2) The looks
3) The looks

I also was desperate for a 2 seater sports car that was (dare I say it) slightly more masculine than its competitors like the boxster

I was looking a for a practical(ish) sports car, with a degree of refinement and the ability to lay down rubber when you want, eye catching looks and not so many on the road made me choose the coupe.. I also think its a bit more manly than the convertible (I've owned lots of various soft tops, and the hairdresser comments from my mates did grate, that said the Z4 has a higher testosterone level that the MR2 .. :)

Also the deal and salesman at BMW was much better than at Porsche and Nissan, which makes the buying experience all the more enjoyable.

I was looking for a convertible and have always loved the S2000... I never really looked at the Z4 because it was that bit expensive, but I just happened across a black 3.0 in a local independent for a bargain price and it had all the toys except sat nav that I wanted. I had to have it!

I still think the S2000 is a cracking car, but the Z4 combines the luxury element with the sports car so much better!

I had an E46 330ci Sport coupe before, and before that, three E36 318is Coupes so it's fair to say I'm very loyal to the BMW brand. I fancied a change from the coupe thing, so I started to look at 330ci Sport Convertibles or Z4 2.5/3.0.

I went for the Z4 because they are IMO better value and of course better looking. I struggled to find a decent low-mileage 330Ci Convertible for less than £14-15k, and it is also now in the higher road tax band. Whereas with the Z4, I got lucky and found a 3.0 with just over 20k miles for a lot less. Couple that with the better fuel economy (I used to get 26 mpg in the 330ci compared to 32mpg in the Z4) and it was a bit of a no-brainer. :)

Took my MINI Cooper S in for service and started looking at the sapphire black Z4M, on the dealer showroom, while waiting. After looking at it, say about 20 times, I walked outside and see an Interlagos Blue, and it is on sale! Phone call to insurance,,,,hmm, just a slight markup per year, that is a lot better than I was expecting,,,,,talk to one of the dealers of approximately what my MINI would trade in for, about 6k less than what I paid for it 4 years prior :) ,,,,, go home and ask the wife if she would mind, nope not at all :D 3 days later, I drove her home! :driving: :driving:

I was on my way to the Lotus dealership to buy an Elise, but had some time to kill before meeting up with a mate to head there together (he wanted one too).

The Lotus dealer wouldn't let me drive it, despite having the cash ready.

BMW was more than willing, I bought it.
