What level of insurance when car is away for the winter

I'm thinking of putting the car away for the winter and getting an old 4x4 to potter about in. I know I can SORN my car and get some tax back but what about insurance. If the car is in the garage surely the only cover I need is theft (if that). Anyone doing this already.

Cheers
Paul

Every change to the insurance is £25 in my case, so that is 2 changes in a year at £50.

My total premium is just £400, so the savings are not there.

Also, can you imagine that say between Christmas and New Year there is a lovely clear sunny day, despite having a coupe, it must still be nice to get the car out then :D

Winter has to be the best time if you want clear roads - although watch out for low temps, and stay safe (i.e. take food, drinks, warm clothes with you).

i leave mie insured as normal during winter storage as their is always the one lovely sunday morning with that lovely winter sun!!! mmmmmmmmmmmm cant beat those roof down!!

i thought of putting mine off road too, was thinking of tax saving only, thought sod it, as others say there will be the odd few days when it will be nice to take it for a spin

Keep mine insured for the odd blast on a sunny winter's day. It does the car good IMO not to be stood up for weeks on end and it is brilliant when the temp's below freezing, heater full on, woolly hat over ears and bum warmers on full toast! Car goes like stink too when it's really cold :driving:

I guess it depends on how much your premium is. Mine is £1400, so would be worth it if I ever wanted to store my car.

You could cancel your current insurance and then get Elephant's 10 months insurance in say February?
