Driving back from an evening at the beach we heard a loud bang sound, a bit like driving over a large twig. Kept going all seemed okay until I went over the first speed bump, a loud scraping noise, then again over the next one. Okay after this until almost home, so stopped to have a look. The flap for getting to the sump oil drain was hanging down and scraping along the ground. So presumably the mechanic that did my oil service hadn’t fitted it back properly after the work. After what happened last year with my car at the service, I thought it better to have a guy do it on my drive, so I could keep an eye on him, how wrong I was. Doesn’t anyone give a shite about their work anymore. Mike.:headbang:

Nope.
I have spent most of today arguing with a contractor trying to charge for a job they didn't do properly.
Then spent most of the evening telling another contractor that the diagnosis of a breakdown yesterday was wrong because the issue still exists. They argued as "the computer" said it's A. It wasn't A it was B. Then they went home until Monday (as it was late; 7pm!) and the problem is still there. So I have to spend most of the weekend dealing with the annoyed customer (which I don't get paid for).
 
The flap was okay so put it back and drilled a couple of small holes for a zip tie. Can’t have this happening again. Might have been the awful roads around here so might have been a bit harsh on the bloke but it hasn’t happened before. Mike.

When I change my oil, I get the engine up to temperature, then I adjust the jack to get as much oil out as possible.
At many garages, they suck the oil out and there have been cases where oil filters aren't changed.
 
I had similar coming back from a service on my old e46 330D, where I went through a puddle and then heard scraping from underneath the car.

Thinking I’d picked something up from the puddle, I pulled onto a kerb so I could see underneath, and it was the fuel filter access hatch…which had been part of the service I’d just had done…so I assumed they’d not fastened it up properly afterwards.

Wriggled underneath and jammed it in place until I could affix it properly when I got home.
 
ite a few E85's in the Zedshed Cymru with these covers long gone, I did replace mine on the 2.0l with an ebayone from a breaker for £16 on ebay, seems ebay oines are more expensive now. Did find this on a google search
Might be a suitable project for our 3D Printers out there?

Imho draining the oil is always better than sucking it out, it gets more out draining it.

To be honest it was intended as a humorous post, as I was pissed at the bollocks being spouted on the contemporaneous “for sale” post. I have mastered the art of positioning the oil catcher, but quite often a gust of wind licks under the car and spatters oil all over the place (mostly over me).

I 3D printed one out of PETG so it withstands the heat. The design (I got it offline for free) was good, and it fits nicely.

Not quite as nice as the BMW ones, but they're so overpriced, I'd rather use the 3D one.

It's not a new phenomenon. I had the same with my Audi TT 20 years ago. I heard an unusual dragging noise on the motorway, so I stopped to investigate. As I slowed down, the noise disappeared and there was nothing so see underneath the car. I pulled away slowly assuming that whatever had been caught up had dislodged itself, only for the noise to return at higher speed. Concerned, I pulled off at the next junction, by which point the undertray had completely detached at the front and it was touching the road. The car had been serviced the day before and the mechanic had neglected to reattach the leading edge of the undertray.
Of course, that was much less irritating that when KwikFit forgot to tighten the wheel bolts on my car after changing the tyres. Fortunately, the bolts were loose enough for it to be immediately obvious, but had enough turns that the wheels remained in the vicinity of the hubs.
 
My 2014 ford fusion (ford mondeo for you international people) when I changed the auto gearbox fluid I left the under tray off so I could measure fluid height after driving it to warm up the fluid. There was a steel plate further back I didn’t realize used 3 bolts from the under body tray to keep the front of the steel plate attached. Hitting 40mph I heard a massive machine gun like sound. Thought I completely fucked my gearbox over I got out and looked underneath thankfully i saw the metal plate cantilevered down. Had to drive like 15mph all the way home.
