You can blame the parents if you like but that's not the case for this behaviour, right is right and wrong is wrong, I was bought up on a council estate by my mum, couldn't remember dad living at home, 1 of 5 children in a 3 bedroom house, mum worked shifts in a factory, all I wanted to do was be successful, work hard and give my children the things I couldn't have, mum did her best and to be honest we didn't feel we missed out because none of our peers had anything too, there were scally's on the estate but I distanced myself from them, i'm 47 so I'm talking about the early 70's here, the ones who damaged the car knew what they were doing, they made the choice not their parents.
I don't want the violins out btw just saying we all make choices.

Mrs B comes from a shockingly poor background - you'd recoil from the 3 room concrete flat with no windows and aircon she grew up in, in KL, with 7 other brothers and sisters. She turned out fine and has the same attitude.

I cant help but think of Monty Python, I certainly do not want to cause upset and don't wish to make light of peoples upbringings but I so wanted my next post to start

I'm a miserable git so sometimes I think 'why do people want to bring children in to this world?' Can you honestly say "life will get better and the world will become a better place"? It will continue to get more rushed, more cramped, more polluted, more divided, greedier, more violent and less fun.
This sort of thread always divides opinion in to two camps - there is the 'hang them and flog 'em' brigade and the 'do gooder/liberals'. I've deliberately caricatured both so you get my point. The truth is though that the answer lies somewhere between the two. When kids do this sort of thing it shows our society (which includes ALL of us) is doing something wrong. We can send people to prison and lock them up all day or birch them or whatever punishment we deem necessary but with punishment so should come rehabilitation - educate, encourage and develop when the punishment has been meted out - don't throw away the key or as a society we will never move forward.

In response to the original question - 'what's wrong with people?', the answer is 'a lot'.
The problem is we project our own values on to everyone else and expect them to behave the way we would. Unfortunately, you're always going to be let down on that one. For whatever reasons (background, environment, social pressure) it's never going to work out the way you want (and no, I'm certainly not excusing s**t behaviour, however there will always be a million reasons as to why crap like this happens - unfortunately most of us will never get to the bottom of it).
