What is this??

I tried to install a Dension Gateway 300 over the weekend but couldn't get the thing to work! :(

When I was digging around behind the central air vents and radio unit I found a transparent red box which was connected to the head unit - couldn't get a clean photo due to lack of space in there, so I've posted a few. Also, behind the head unit there is a small black circular connector to which is attached a small cable (can't see where the other one goes). This is on the far right side when viewed from the front (i.e. opposite side to the harness).

Any ideas what the red box and extra connector are?

It may help to know that the car came with a Sony Ericsson HCB-300 bluetooth car kit. There is a black box in the same place which must be part of this kit. Do you think the red box is an 'advanced music mute' and the black cable part of the bluetooth setup? Has anyone installed a similar thing?

If I'd not lost so much time to, and not been so frustrated by the Gateway 300 install failure I'd had played around a bit more and experimented. :x :headbang:

Thanks

I've got the same thing in mine.

It's part of hands free phone kit that was installed in mine by the previous owner, and was the only bit I didn't remove due to not being able to get the stereo out.

It's a cloaking device creating an invisibility shield that works really well on the drivers of Fords and Vauxhalls.

Evidenced by:
It makes it impossible for them to see a BMW trying to emerge from a junction or island.
Causes them to tailgate, oblivious to the BMW in front
Race from lights mistaking the fabulous exhaust note to be from their own 80bhp Fiesta
Change lanes without signalling
....and many more :)

I've also noticed it work on some people who appear to want to stare at the beauty of the car, but their head ceases to function allowing only their eyes to strain to look

That aside - pull it out. When you find what stops working do post...

I thought it's what the Sport button is connected to.

Its like the flux capacitor that ay8306 mentioned but is actually a "flux resistor". Its only active when the Sport button is OFF.
