What is this sensor in the bumper?

Hi everyone,

New Z4 owner here (red e85 2.2 se)! I took my bumper off to fit some new headlights (2xcite) and found that this sensor is completely missing (I just have the wires that would go into it). Could someone please help me out by telling me what it is so that I can go about sourcing a replacement part?

No fault lights come up on the dash, however the car does emit one brief "beep" once when I start to drive off. Outside temperature sensor maybe?

Thanks for your help!

While you are in there it may be worth twizzling your horns around so the aperture doesn't face the front, I've just had to change both of mine at the weekend which were both rusty, I believe due to water ingress because of the way they were facing.

It's the temperature sensor for the heated washer nozzles, or at least that's what it says on RealOEM. I don't have it yet I have heated nozzles?? Go figure..... :|

Thanks for the really quick replies. I'll see if I can't get the sensor from a breaker.

Looking forward to post some pics of my new red Zed after it has been re-polished by my detailer!

Just a thought, but does your OBC display the outside temperature? If so it can't be the outside temp sensor that is missing!

Someone mentioned the sensor for the windscreen washer heating? That may be it, but in 12 years of BMW ownership all with heated washers I've yet to have one where the washers actually worked once the temperature got below zero - I'd just leave it if that is what it is for!

No, I don't have the temperature displayed on the OBC. I haven't got round to finding the sensor yet. The one on ebay doesn't look the same as the one I posted in the original photo though; it looks like an antenna whereas the on the photo above where the bumper is off, it's more of a circular thing. Maybe the antenna does face down towards the road, hence why I can't see it on the photo?
