What is this part and how do I get it off?

Hi chaps.

I came back a car park to find my car with this dent on it not long ago. It had only been there <1 hour :cry: :cry:

Unfortunately no witnesses, no note on the windscreen and no cctv means I'm left to source a replacement part. My first thoughts are finding a Z that's being broken down due to front end damage and getting the part from there.

This leads to my questions. What is this part? And does anyone have any methods on how to take the part off? I haven't played around with the car yet to get it off but I think it'll be a PITA.

I know the car is very dirty. Since the car has been dented I have almost rejected it. Taking it to a farm didn't help I guess. I'm hoping new springs, pads, wheels and tyres and a new body part all in the near future will make me love my car again.

Any help is very much appreciated.
 
that's the rear wing, no expert but don't think its a bolt on/off part, usually welded on.
you need a body repair shop mate, they should be able to pull most of that out, bit of filler re paint approx £250-£300

they are a bolt on part on the Z4.

heres a sapphire black one, think its the same colour as your car;

Some say there is a weld and some say its bolt on. One guys who says he's swapped it swears its bolt on. (There is a previous thread. I'll add the link later if I can find it )
There are a few roof bolts attached to it, but at least you haven't got the filler cap to contend with, as per the other side.

There are some bolts just inside the boot channel and some behind the rubber cover in the door slam area. The difficult ones will be those up inside the boot in the corner.
 
Thanks guys. I just purchased the part you mentioned Jamie. It should arrive at the end of the week so I'll take a look tomorrow to familiarise myself with the bolts.

good your getting it sorted but damn!!!! I can't stand the bastards who do this and drive off without a care. scum!
 
Hi, Just to confirm, there are no welds holding the wing on, its just purely bolted. All the main bolts are visible once the bumper and skirt and plastic trim on rear quarter at the inside of the door have been removed. The one that's a pain, is hidden under the rear panel between the boot and the roof (have highlighted the bolt hole in pic).
This bolt is accessed from inside the boot. I followed 'Shipkillers' guide to roof removal to access this bolt. You don't need to remove the roof, but just undo the 7 bolts holding the aluminium frame around the bulkhead, which gives you just enough room to move the frame out the way to access the bolt.
If you've only removed all the visible bolts, then yeah you'd swear its welded or somehow fixed under the panel.
I stripped both my wings off when I painted the car. Its not too bad, just extreme fun upside down, contorting yourself in the boot of the car! Especially if you're not a small person. Bring back child labour!

So after a bit of trouble with actually getting the part it finally arrived yesterday. The guy delivered it himself and breaks Z4's as a little money maker.

As I expected it had a few small marks on it but a few coats of wax and some light use of a wax correction pen on the deeper marks and the wing is looking very good. I hadn't used a correction pen before but thought I'd give it a go and I'm glad I did. I have Monday and Tues off work so will attempt to remove the old wing and fit the new one over those days.

Sounds like you have everything in hand hand. :thumbsup: Had a smaller dent in the same spot a few years back. Who are these To##ers that dent your car a drive off without a thought. :headbang: First world problem I know but, it really upset me for a few weeks when it happened.

Be good to see your P&J back to it's best and being enjoyed again. :wink:
