What is this little gear thing?

We're at the Welsh Zedshed looking at my roof, and while waiting for it to reset, we went to swap out a clutch speed sensor that was throwing a code. On removing the panel under the steering column to access the sensor, I saw a little plastic piece pop out, but i didn't see where it went.

After swapping the sensor and putting the panel back on, we found it.



Does anyone know what this is, or what it does? Theres no part number on it to see....

I reckon you're right! The little drawer hatch to the right of the steering wheel isnt damped now, I wonder if it had popped out at some point but sat inside the panel until we opened the panel and then it fell out.
