Little cover in the airbox ???, is it something else to enhance the induction noise or does it have a function :?

on E46's their airbox is I believe identical to ours. but their hose routes through he side hole into the front rather than straight forward like ours

can i leave it open for better air circulation? or would hot air from engine go into the airbox?? 8)
 
yea u'd be geting HOT air from engine bay and radiator...better off leaving it CLOSED. factory airbox is already a COLD AIR intake with no resonator so only thing is you need would be high flow filter rather than a "COLD AIR INTAKE" for hundreds of dollars
