what is the true value of our cars?

I raised this in a separate link, but think it has some merit to be discussed in its own right. Looking at the price of spare parts for the Z4 both on here and on fleabay are we now in a situation were the value of the parts in our cars on the second hand market now exceed the insurance valuations we have on them?? It makes you wonder if we will soon become victims of people targeting our cars to strip down and sell the parts?? What do others think?

I don't see why the Z4 should be different to any other car in this matter.

It happened to my e34 M5 to an extent that the only ones left on the road are rolling parts buckets worth £3k, or restoration examples valued at £20k. I couldn't afford to restore either of mine so they were sold as spares/repair.

However, in the case of the e34 M5s, it was usually the engine/suspension that caused the most spirals into parts bucket hell - as an engine rebuild was around £3-6k and new EDC suspension was about £1k/corner (and only available from BMW).
