What is the point in PayPal payment protection?

Bit of background - bought something and paid with PayPal but the goods were never delivered by the online shop nor did they ever return emails or answered the telephone.

Raised a dispute with PayPal, provided all evidence and after a number of weeks got an email from PayPal stating that they had ruled in favour of me, but as the vendor had no funds in his account I would not receive anything unless the vendor replenished his account.

So what is all that about then? I thought when buying with PayPal you would get protection and your money back if there was a problem. Appearantly not so. As a backup, I claimed the funds back via my credit card as that is the funding source of my PayPal account so I did get a refund in the end, but from a different source. Interesting enough, the CC chargeback initiated another PayPal dispute cycle. Bet they try a bit harder to get their funds back this time though ...

I had exactly the same issue with PayPal. The vendor who didn't send the goods didn't have any money in his paypal account, so hey presto, no refund.

Paypal is great when you have two honest folk, but a load of rubbish if it goes wrong.

PS: O/T - Enjoy W&W tomorrow, I couldn't get on any club stands, so I doubt I'll go up.

Really good info to know. Thanx for posting this. I had thought their protection was similar to the credit card companies!
