what is the connector?

 Russia, Altai kray.
2005, Z4 E85, Automatic transmission. When replacing the cabin filter, I saw the connector, why is it?

According to the parts number it's a "BMW Multifunction connector" used on several different components but may be connected to Sat Nav or radio in that location, or possibly the seat occupancy sensor to dashboard airbag connection.
 
I thought it was the highlight of the legs. How do you know if there is a wiring for the lighting of the feet in the car?

usually only 2 wires running to a footwell light i think

If it's near the steering column then it could be the cruise control, (that's what my connecter looked like)
this is on the passenger side where the cabin filter is.
 
oddly enough i had the fusebox out on my e89 today and there was a connector that looked exactly the same hanging down.. i didn't sweat it as it obviously just for something my car isnt specced with :)

interesting to know from what it is, you can add a car.

Its an e89 23i
