What is the bit behind the blanking plate for?

Just picked my Z up yesterday (Yes I am loving it but not had time to enjoy it yet!) and above the centre there is a blanking plate and when I popped it open it looked like a hole for a speaker. What is it for? Also looks like there is a pen holder bit there too

Not a pen holder, a clip for wires. Its for the top end hifi system, a central rear speaker and tweeter. Same thing on the top centre of your dash, and there'd also be subs behind the seats. You don't have that option, hence the covers.

So in the front it does appear that there is a speaker in the centre section just in front of the cubby hole.

There seems to be a lot of speakers for a roadster! 2 in the kickwells, mid ranage in doors and the tweeters in the a pillars. Then the front centre speaker

At the back there is speakers behind the shoulders then the big round speakers behind the back of each seat!

If you have all those speakers, you've got more than the basic hifi, but perhaps not the top of the range set. You get basic, business and hifi I think, can't recall the proper names. Presumably you specced up the loudspeaker package or it was included by BMW as an incentive?

edit: basic hifi is speakers in footwells, doors and behind shoulders (six speaker)

Business speakers increase this to 11 speakers, which sounds like the one you may have, along with a higher wattage amp.

Pro speakers are 14 speakers with big momma of an amp.

I must have the business speakers with the Professions radio. Bass is a bit poo IMO. I understand there is no retrofit for DAB on this?

If your car is new, it has DAB. If its older than a year then it may not have as it was an option before then. Retrofit may be possible, I'm not sure.

Think i read on the bmw site there was a retro fit for dab but i could have miss read it, give your dealer a ring

There is a universal DAB retrofit, but its not like having the proper thing, you have to use a remote on your dash to control it... urg.

More LEDs at the back for lighting

I've not quite figured out the chrome bit. I am guessing this a hook? There is also a hook point further down too

The chrome loops are lashing points, for the massive items you can fit behind the seats?! Looks like you have the storage package too and the extended lighting perhaps?

you can buy the speaker grill for the rear bulkhead with the speakers attached. - run the cable round the bulkhead and piggy back off the rear speakers. - cost about £50 plus a bit of speaker cable. 8)

I believe I do have those 2 as well. I wasn't expecting these extras as it was not listed on the advert so bonus for me! Although I have to say those 2 LEDS at the back I really cannot see it being effective lighting!
