I have no idea the correct value (£6k to £8k guide sounds v cheap but clearly isn't as it's not that far below the £9k you didn't get before.)
But based on watching classic car auctions over the last 6 months I get the distinct impression that either -
(1) Cars sold by private treaty often don't sell, and when they do they go for 25% below asking
or
(2) Auctions are the place to go if you are a buyer (or a seller whose priority is to get rid, as opposed to get a good price).
