What have you done to your E89 today

Well, I had one of those moments where I just sat in the car to unwind from the day and the EPAS errors were coming through left right and centre. I’d be a fool to think the rack would repair itself, so have ordered a reconditioned unit. I have seen others in the forum use Hirsche and they provided me with a comprehensive walkthrough of the refurbishment process which, in itself was comprehensive.

I’ve got a quote of £220 including VAT from my go to garage to fit, so looks like this will be my next item.

Out of everything I’ve done to the Z4, this (along with the FRM module failing) is the most disappointing fault to have to rectify. There’s no performance benefit to replacement and it’s ultimately a component that shouldn’t fail. I’m assuming it’s bad capacitors or cracking solder joints that are the route cause.

Small tweeter grille fix
When I bought the car, I noticed that the tweeter grille on my E89 had been slightly bent, probably from a knock at some point.

I decided to have a go at straightening it rather than replacing the whole trim piece. It turned out to be a very simple little fix, and I'm quite happy with how it came out.

I made a short video showing how I did it, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else has the same issue:



The video is in Spanish, but YouTube's automatic translation does a pretty good job if you want to follow along.

Nothing complicated, just a small fix that saved me from buying a new piece.

Has anyone else had to straighten one of these grilles?

Technically this was yesterday, however I was pretty exhausted by the end of it, so I'm posting today.

With family out of town, I took the opportunity to give my Z4 a wash, tyre cleaning, clay bar, polish and ceramic coating - the first time I've ever done the last 3 items for any car. It was a bit of a learning experience but I'm happy with the results in the end!



I will say this - it sure feels like you find more nicks and blemishes when cleaning/polishing a car than when you're just using it day to day!

All thats left is a gummi pfledging, leather cleaning and treatment and a dash cleaning on the inside.
