What have you done to your E89 today

Replaced the following today.
(2) Hood gas struts
(2) boot gas struts
(2) Convertible top Gas struts (Special tool required)
(2) Salmon replays for convertible top
I'll do the bonnet struts as well as the boot !

Got my car back today after being into BMW Stoke. Loan was nice but numb.

So glad I didn't do this myself on the drive. Engine disconnect from subframe, no big but I would have needed to purchase a bridge. All under trays off. Steering heat shields off. Oil cooler lines removed for access. Steering mech disconnected. All suspension off the subframe then subframe dropped. Oil, oil filter, gasket, new sump bolts.

All documented:thumbsup:

They confirmed it was not the IMS in the bell housing.

So systems test after putting most of the cabin back together..everything works pretty much as expected apart from Mr 12 Volt rear camera which doesn't appear to function...posted that elsewhere..the camera is definitely live.. but..

Is it a config issue? New bug? Or simply came disconnected at the head end on reassembly?

Interesting I had to tweak the config on the unit post updates to make the existing front camera come alive..but that's had zippo impact on the rear?

Any ideas?

Brakes still need a good bleed..it was on the scissor jack wheel-less but that allowed me to operate the gearbox to trigger the cameras etc..

So different media feeds worked through their respective routes..

So thnx to AnubisZed found the RTFM issue with getting rear camera feed to work on the MMI box..did a full system test..

All cushty..
Spent the day refitting all the boot trim after relaying the myriad of additional cables....2 cameras, 2 radar units, power feeds for them etc

All is left is to refit the passenger footwell trim..one of the clips that the 3 screws goes into is missing ....amazon on the way for that..

Amazing how new glasses, lots more compact lighting allows you to see things that you botched last time..with my new picker found around 8 plastic trim clips, 1 snap clip and 3 screws lying around in various remote and inaccessible locations ..

Video of test of the media / cluster here..

Brakes still need a damm good bleed..

Five mobiles😂
Ah..actually I've got 9 or 10 overall... but I'm using only 4 in the E89

iphone 13 mini Main one main sim and carplay
iphone 13 pro Back up back up sim and bluetooth via idrive plus porn shoots
iphone 7 plus USB idrive media player
iphone 7 plus Match 10 MEC USB direct media player..

It was all on the schematic..you didn't read it!-:)

You'll be pleased to know that I've got full VBR on the two USB ones averaging around 950kb...still can't here the difference!

I'll post up an interesting test on usb/blutooth/wired and wireless carplay!

Got back from vacation to find some deliveries that came in. Updated the rollbars and wind deflector to start.

Interesting..I like the C/F front on the hoops, the rear less so...not a fan of those perspex wind blockers but each to their own..enjoy!

I went with c/f rear covers and Italian leather fronts..FWIW!

Yes old boy..I perfectly well understand that..however..this forum is quintessentially English not American..therefore we should use the King's English..please refrain from mispronouncing potato, tomato, aluminium, buoy, colour etc etc..kind regards!-:)
I find that the best way to end such discussions with our former American allies, is to remind them that there is no such thing as an 'American Dictionary'.
:poke:

Big thanks to Christopher72 for loaning me the special tool for the convertible top gas struts !!!!
Very welcome. I did need to remove all of the State College stickers you left on it. O-H...

This thing has a HDD! Currently imaging its replacement. Takes a long time with this old tech.
