What have you done to your E89 today

So, this afternoon, after tinkering with the gain settings on the amp, and being happy with it, I decided to remove it from inside the glove box and situated it on top of said glove box. Had to move the mmi over a bit to fit the amp in and reroute some cabling. After several hurty words and having minimal patience left, I got it all buttoned back up. I've now ordered up another set of match UP component speakers for the rears to keep it all the same.

So the existing rear speaker and recent tweeter is to be swapped out?

Be prepared for a relatively underwhelming upgrade experience

I know, lol. It's just my ocd in overdrive. Which subs/amp would you recommend for the footwells, from your experience? I was looking at the vibe 400.1 for It's compact size along with kicker dvc 6.75", 2 ohm subs, but the amp only goes to 250w rms at 2 ohms and the subs are 300w rms each, so the amp is severely lacking. Even if I managed to get the 4 ohm equivalent subs, the amp only goes to 400w rms at 1 ohm. Can i be arsed fitting a bigger amp in the boot and running all the cables? I'm not sure. My head is fried with it all

I have been changing the full interior of my 2010 23i over the last couple of weekends, combined with replacing the stereo and interior fan (which was noisy). Today I completed the (mechanical) work, which included replacing the column switches, as I have retrofitted cruise control and both column trims as I also retrofitted the factory phone mic (although I couldn't find where to plug this in, so will need to revisit this once I have a solution! Very happy with my tan leather in place of the previous black!

Next job will be coding to get the cruise control to function.

You need a 6” woofer not sub in the footwells..you can just fit a 6.5” but it’s very tight..the woofers will need about 100 w rms..and because they are higher frequencies you’ll need a stereo channel signal /output ..pretty agnostic about amps..pretty standard stuff these days..as long as they deliver 100 w rms per channel

I've already got the Hertz cento c165 woofers in there. I'm sure they're around 110w rms each. I'll stick another amp on them and see how they cope.

I’ve got the Vibe 400.1 and I think it’s a great little amp that you can took away in a tight space, just bear in mind that the footwell subs are wired inline with the door speakers so you will have to re wire them, if you then wire them in parallel it will half the Ohm rating of the speakers and you are always better with a higher rated speaker than the power of the amp. IMHO

You need to drive each speaker on a dedicated channel of a stereo image..

You’ll get a shite audio sound stage driving then together be it serial or parallel…in addition folks often wire them up incorrectly and get a destructive phase cancellation…making power these days on amps is not an issue..you can always buy more grunt..

Correct pass band adjustment is key to good audio performance..ideally an amp with pass band type capabilities

That’s correct for vocals and mid high pitch sounds but if it’s only bass then mono is better

I believe you’re referring to sound below about 100Hz…the woofer in an E89 covers from around 100 to 2k…which requires a strong stereo image..otherwise most of the worlds audio system would be wired for mono..the 676 on the E89 is the only time I’ve ever seen a woofer wired in mono..

Correct 👍
In that case the 400.1 wouldn’t be suitable and would require another 65.4, and just use 2 of the available 4 channels.

For my 340/370mm big brake kit just had turn number 5 from the laser cutters..

Reduced slop in the mounting holes..stock ‘tight’ fit is 13mm..then went to 12.3mm now 12mm

Two design changes…increased thickness to 15mm to allow for some milling of the bracket and retain thickness..

Done another turn down to 12mm exact...amazing all bolt holes line up and 12mm bolts go through…onto the next stage…milling the offset required to remove the need for spacer washers in the installation…
