What have you done to your car today?

There’s a lot of coolant in the N52, 6-7 litres if I remember correctly. I wouldn’t worry about any harm done from running it half a litre under, but it will need investigating if the level drops again. Leaks from the expansion tank are very hard to see.

Shamefully in my year of ownership my relationship with the coolant has been to look quite a long time ago and think "that looks fairly low" and then another 5 or 7 months going past and actually checking properly and topping it up. Given that I believe it was somewhat neglected by the previous owner between 2021 and 2024 it is possible that it lost 500-600ml over a 3 or 4 year period! I hope so anyway. I will keep a closer eye on it.

Not driven it in a month and came to drive it today to find a flat battery and broken front spring... Oh and some bubbling on the front wheel arch :headbang:

With a new baby I just don't have the time to spend on it or driving it at the moment! Hopefully I can make some time soon!

First drive since September last year today!!

I had cleaned it carefully before hibernation in September and stuck it under an indoor cover in the garage with the intention of giving it a proper paint correction and graphene coating over winter, but with a new baby in September, I've simply not had the time. With the weather being dry and sunny most of last week and 16c with not a cloud in the sky today, it was more than my willpower could withstand - taxed it and took my 4 yr old boy to a birthday party of one of his mates, then took the (very) circuitous route home via Wirksworth, Cromford and Matlock bath, with my wee man giggling away and shouting 'FASTER FASTER DADDY'

Got some appreciative smiles and thumbs up from the bikers in Matlock too, which was very nice.

Just love being out in the 'racecar' with the boy, it makes my day!

Continuing the hibernation maintenance. Wheels off for cleaning, detailed the wheel wells. Drill & wire brush to remove rust spots from wheel hubs, rear hubs protected with spray paint.

It’s not easy with a little one. My son is 20 months and last year the car did 800 miles.

I got a iOS fix kit I sourced on here by a fab member! He loves Lightning McQueen became the Z is red he thinks it is him goes absolutely mad for it! Looking forward to taking him out in it!

Cleaned the inside and re-fixed the back of both seats in the E86.

Found a small, short cable with plastic clip attachment on the end hanging about 6" out from the passenger side carpet up by where your toes are... before I take the glove compartment out again to look where it might have come from, can anyone tell me if I need to and what it is / where it goes?

Been out for an early morning drive over the Cotswolds in the sunshine, absolutely fabulous.
Now I’m just raising the rear suspension a little and finishing off my brake calliper repainting.

Separated the diff from the subframe, stripped it down ready to fit a 4.1 gearset tomorrow (I hope!).

Figured out that RealOEM have an incorrect diagram for the Z4M backbox mounts, they should be the reverse of how they are shown, which shakes my entire belief system to its core.

Today not good story :( i have new steering wheels ring, but is bad, multifunction goes not and also i have issue with horn. Not OEM is always not good choice.

I hear you there! Mine has only done a couple of thousand miles each year since my first child was born beginning of 2020. Jury is out on whether I'll get much use out of it this year with a 6month old daughter too now(!) but with my little boy enjoying it so much it does make it easier to justify getting it out. Got to try to keep petrol in his veins!

I'll confess I'm not the biggest fan of Roadsters, but that looks flippin fantastic - the wheels are perfect, especially in that colour and it sits so nicely on the suspension, perfect arch gap imo. Hats off to you, you've done a cracking job on that

Got some new wheels and tyres on today, thanks to BMAutosport. Overdone CSLs but come on, they’re perfect. Went with Sport Contact 7s for the first time, looking forward to testing them out in the Peaks at the weekend

My old slightly battered MV2s will need to go soon if anyone fancies them, will post an ad in a few days

After about 20 prints and 47 design revisions I think I’ve finally dialled in the prototype bracket to drop the head unit screen down so it doesn’t block the heater vents, but without dropping it far enough I can’t see the controls. Need to check properly tomorrow in daylight and make sure it’s not reflecting the sun stupidly or something now.

That looks spot on, are these the RIVA replicas? how's the ride and what tyre sizes did you go for?
Cheers

Cheers mate really happy with them: I went for the 19” Atomics with 225/35 and 265/30. Haven’t had chance to drive anywhere with them yet but will report back on ride coming from the 18”

Those wheels look real nice! Overdone or not, they indeed are perfectly suited :)

Edit: obligatory welcome to page 1000! :driving:
