What have you done to your car today?

Just stuck 750ml of coolant in the E86 (took it right to max).

How concerned would you be at running around with at least 500-600 ml too little in there, as I clearly have been?

No problem at all if the temp gauge is still right in the middle.

You might have had problems if you were hooning it round a track in the middle of summer.

Took the 35i out for a drive in the sunshine with the winding our hair and even managed a little bit of opposite lock exiting a roundabout in sport plus, the wife was not impressed as I said oops it slipped :D

I need to sharpen up! I'd like to think I'd have noticed if the temp gauge was rising high... but I'm not someone who consciously looks at it too often so I hope I'm right I'd have noticed. The sort of driving I tend to do is a long way from hooning round a track in the middle of summer.

You should be safe enough - if I recall correctly, it will sound an alert if/when it starts to overheat. Happened to me when my water pump failed previously.

I finally made use of my inspection pit to remedy the MOT advisories from last year.

Nearside Rear corrosion on rear shock absorber
Offside Rear corrosion on rear shock absorber

They need to be replaced, but that's a job for another time. It would be nice to pull the rear subframe out and refurb it but again a job for another time.

After giving it a buzz with the wire wheel and 3 coats of rust inhibitor and then a coat of wax oil.

At 20 years old, I thought this wasn't too bad. This seems to be the only trouble spot; it's very clean underneath! Suppose that's a testament to the factory underseal.

I am terrible for not reading the manual for anything at all, unless I absolutely need to. I had kinda hoped / assumed that when the temperature was rising dangerously there would be an indication a bit less subtle than simply the temperature gauge, if only a red warning light on the dash.

They look outstanding. Which products did you use for the spraying?
Thanks! I'm quite pleased after some trial and error :)
In order:
- Jenolite Grey Plastic Primer
- Hycote Matt Black
- Jenolite Clear Matt Lacquer

(couldn't find Jenolite matte black in NL)

Sock absorber! Your a braver man than me rollin that gorgeous M over that pit. See how close your N/S rear is to the edge :o

Brake fluid replaced, car cleaned, leather seats cleaned and conditioned, rear ventilation vents replaced (they were letting water in), and fitted this lovely looking gear knob which makes a big difference shifting..

Lol my bad!

My wife guided me in and i drove super slowly. The edge is about 3 inches wide, and the tire is 10 inches wide, so you would have to do something pretty seriously wrong for it to fall into the pit. TBF you can do a lot more damage by jacking the car up wrong or it slipping off a jack.

The wide angle lens makes it look worce but the car was only 3-4ft into the garage the front of the car was sticking out the front.

There’s a lot of coolant in the N52, 6-7 litres if I remember correctly. I wouldn’t worry about any harm done from running it half a litre under, but it will need investigating if the level drops again. Leaks from the expansion tank are very hard to see.
