Ok, I pulled the trigger and ordered the F10 M5 Illuminated Shift Knob - 6 Speed $240.19 out the door from ECS Tuning. :driving:
Read all the modifying threads and could have done that, but the M5 model lights up much nicer than the original Z4 M version, at least that's what I read and the pic looked very good! Would hate to mess up my old shifter and/or the new one and then have to turn around order yet another shifter. Nice that this will have the M hash marks already. Will have to decide whether to use the new boot and modify it to fit the Z4 M or stick with the old boot. My old boot is in good shape! :D

Update, although I verified in a chat with ECS Turning that the item I was ordering was in fact the ZHP F10 M5 Illuminated Weighted shifter knob/boot, when it arrived it was not. Just the normal stock M5 shifter. Returned! They do carry the correct one, but it is $301 plus taxes. They do currently have a $25 off promotion when you spend $250+. Will reorder the correct model from someplace??? :headbang:

In general you should order by p/n. A lot of BMW knobs may be compatible with various models but the f10 m5 should’ve only come with one specific knob. What was the p/n of what you received?

And yes it’s quite pricey which is why I said if you can do without lighting, better to go with the zhp knob for 1/4th of the price.

The one I ordered today, the correct one: Mfg#: 25112284205
The wrong one I previously ordered: Mfg#: 25112282400

Yea p/n 25112282400 is for the E39 m5 :)

With the track season wrapped up, finally unboxed the APR front splitter. Planning to take my time with this however since I’ll be handling it differently compared to the typical approach of mounting directly to the bumper. The build will truly be done after this.

Are you doing the adjustable rods?

3.0si is back on the road with a new water pump and thermostat. First time I've had to bleed an electric water pump, so weird hearing water gurgling round without the engine being on. Seems a better procedure than I've found on M52/M54 engines previously though, had frontend in the air still and ran the sequence twice but looked to burb itself happily.

Pretty sure the original pump/thermostat were still fitted, 18 years and 131k miles on. They've done well but that's one potential failure pushed further down the list with new parts on instead.

Yes at min I will go with adjustable rods but it's going to be a hybrid of sorts. The main issues with mounting to bumper are:

- bumper and splitter can't be removed independently of one another
- splitter is less secure compared to chassis mount
- splitter height is fixed to bumper

For a street car, some of these concerns may be less relevant but I think they can be real challenges for a track car. So I plan to mount to chassis using a combo of adjustable rods along with some brackets. Hope to have it wrapped up before Thanksgiving.

Can be a real challenge loading a track car on a trailer when it is low and has a large lower splitter on the front. I have that issue with one of my cars. The factory delivered car like my mine you can remove the front splitter to load it on the trailer, mine is not removable. I have adjustable rods on the inside mounted to the radiator support where you can't see them.

Despite seeing mostly seeing track duty, I do not trailer the car. I still enjoy driving on street occasionally so it has full interior. But there are days I wish I could run Hoosiers :D

The splitter is very moderate, no where close to the 4” max allowed in my class. Probably closer to 2” from the furthest point of the nose of the bumper. So your points about trailer are correct but less of a concern for me. I just want take off any undue stress from bumper and be able to remove both bumper and splitter independently.

You should post pics of your track car!

Finally got the guts to mount the rear spoiler.

Track car. I have gone through the car and updated all kinds of stuff multiple times. So it does not match the list of parts listed on the display board anymore.

Brother those are both ridiculously clean, how I envy you. American muscle, JDM exotic and the Z to throw in the mix. Really got all your bases covered. The NSX was dream car as a kid.

Always more stuff I want to do to them all. Just like the Z4 MC! :driving:

NSX and a track Mustang . You have been holding back on us . I bet they both sound amazing

One of my brothers always says he can hear my NSX anywhere on the 3.5mile road course track, pretty loud. :driving:

Wow, that's some fleet you have there.

Always lots of maintenance and projects to do on this fleet. Bought my 1995 Volvo 850 GLT 5-speed manual Touring edition in 95 new. It has ~224K miles on it now, ready like that car with the manual. My 2007 Z4 MC is the newest car I own.

Pretty excited that Royal Steering Wheels got back with me on an estimate today. That would definitely look 100% better once I get that done.
Also my F10 M5 Illuminated shift knob/boot will be coming in this Friday. Another exciting project!!! :driving:

I kept smelling lightly some coolant from the expansion tank cap area, so I put new orings on the cap since one of them looked a little flat. Who knows if this will fix it but new orings always don't hurt! I know I know, the caps are super cheap

I got the Z car out for my wife to drive to work. I pointed out the new spoiler. She laughed! Then said don’t judge a book by it’s cover… Then asked what that was supposed to do for her! 😳

I told her it would give her better gas mileage! 🤣
