That is some serious Human Residue on that wheel, I thought sweaty gamers were the worst having coined the phrase "Gamer Gunk" for that exact same residue that builds up on your mouse and keyboard.


I guess the previous owner was partial to a bit of hand cream.

Today I set about removing and relocating the roof motor from its watery grave into the dry of the boot. Started early doors before the sun got going but the removal took longer than expected.
Stripped everything down (pump & motor). Gave the motor a good half hour in a diesel bath and sat pump head in calliper cleaner. After lunch put everything back together, a quick test electronically, topped up the pump with jack oil. Freed off the release valve that was stuck in. And still the roof doesn’t lift of its own accord :headbang: when unlatched. Needs assistance for the 1st 6”. Flies shut once fully open. Any ideas anyone, please.
 
Slowly acquiring all the pieces needed for my Sparco seat install. Non-rigid rear lap belts to replace original Z4 ones so they can be properly routed through the side hole. Let’s just hope they’re long enough to reach the seat.

Engine running every time I try the roof and oil level tried from little to nearly max. Positioned motor and pump and different angles and rotations. Checked flexible lines for kinks. This started before I relocated and cleaned the system 🤷‍♂️.

If it closes quickly under its own steam, but needs assistance to open, chances are the top part of the pump the hydraulic bit is buggered. This is starting to become more common now and no amount of repositioning the pump and filling with oil is going to sort that out. Needs a new pump - not motor.

It might be that the previous owner has changed the hydraulic pipes around so that it works putting the roof up, but the down cycle needs assistance - more preferable to the other way around.

I just purchased a 2008 Z4 3.0si with the Sport Package from a friend. I detailed the interior / engine compartment / engine, replace the windshield washer pump and topped off the radiator fluid. I then removed the drink holders, washed and reinstalled. I tried to find the Bluetooth sticker to get the pin number to bind the radio / sound system / phone with my Apple iPhone 12, but couldn't find the sticker behind the speaker in back of the driver's seat (as per youTube instructions). I found the plug under the dash to connect my phone via a hard wire. I made an appointment to have the transmission fluid + filter changed and to check other key points. I replaced the two horns.

If you have anyone local with INPA you can pull the pin from the module
