What have you done to your car today?

[ref]TomK[/ref],

Wow, really looks much better! Surprised at the differences. I guess you are tracking your Z at road courses. I'm sure that's a lot of fun. I have a couple of other cars for taking to the track and my wife isn't going to let me take the (her) ZMC, barely lets me drive it! But still adding some nice touches to the Z. Waiting for the red Brembo calipers to come in. Want a carbon fiber front split and then coil-overs. Will be adjusting the valves too. :driving:

What's up with the a/c? Could be transport mode. Do the rear window heaters also not work? If not, then its just in Transport mode
The air blowing out isn’t ice cold.
As far as I know the rear window works fine, and I can adjust the fan speed of the heater.
I’m also pretty sure the revs drop slightly when you switch on the AC. So not sure if it just needs regassed or if the condenser is gone etc.

Since picking up my new to me coupe, I started taking care of cosmetics and small mods such as bumper respray, window tint, new shoes and most recently projector upgrades. But I’ve also been building up a parts list that I plan to tackle over next few weeks:

Maintenance
- Fluid (engine oil, trans, diff, steering)
- Spark plugs
- Drive belts, tensioner and pulleys
- Bushings & mounts (front strut reinforcement, front arb, rsm, rtab, subframe inserts)

Upgrades
- Euro headers + high flow cats + Epic tuning
- BW Group N Motor mounts + 10.9 engine bolts
- Brembo 996 big brake kit
- GC Camber plates + washers + alignment

i hope to have all this completed by mid-June in time for my next track event. This time around, I plan to keep the car “OEMplus”. No rollbar, seats and harnesses. Goal do some Porsche hunting and bring her back home in a comfortable drive home.

Will be sure to post updates soon.

I have just started the hydraulic conversion on my e85, 2.5 hrs later , pump fitted, idler pulley removed serpentine belt fitted, reservoir and pipework fitted. Old rack removed and hydraulic one prepped...just waiting on lower steering shaft .

Regas @ ATS, £62

System pressure check, clean & new fill.

Bargain at that price IMO

I’ve fitted a new second hand passenger mirror which I had to take apart and fit into the original sterling grey outer skin. Bit of a faff but managed in the end

Finally managed to wash it without getting sidetracked into something else like cleaning the driveway instead.

Interior tomorrow if I can find a good few hours spare.

Changed oil and filter which was new to me, that was quite fun apart from the mess..

Took advantage of the sump being empty of oil and changed the oil level sensor too.

Fingers crossed there are no leaks..

Was wondering what specifically, on the engine, that you were going to upgrade to 10.9 hardened bolts?
In case it's something I should be thinking of upgrading too. Thanks! :)

Engine mount brackets on S54. It’s not issue of bolt strength but they tend to back out due to incorrect torque specs. BMW user to offer a Motorsport version (10.9) but those have been discontinued so I just sourced my own along with some nord locks. I plan on doing other work so it was just timely upgrade / good excuse to burn cash.

Wow, good to know and much appreciated Dubbedown! Will double check mine when I put it on the lift again.
Is there a place I can look for other Technical Service bulletins for our M's?

Thanks!!! :driving:

Unfortunately not for free, or not that I know of. I happen to save a few random ones over the years. Luckily this chassis was pretty well sorted from factory so there aren’t too many of these type of bulletins.

This tech bulletin and info should be saved as a How To or something. Otherwise it’s going to get lost in an 800 page thread for future users….

I’d like to check these myself even though mine have been replaced by Vibratech mounts.

The Vibratech came with upgraded bolts as far as I understand from previous owner.

Would you also kindly advise the torque settings
- with OEM bolts
- with upgraded bolts

My red E46 M3 Brembo 4 pot big brake kit calipers will come in next Monday from FreakyParts. It comes with caliper brake hoses that have been on backorder for months. Stewart said he had 20 kits that had been waiting on the brake hoses, finally received them or at least mine came in.

Don't forget to specify Z4M caliper brake hoses so they are long enough to reach on a Z4M.
