What have you done to your car today?

So removing the little white pad will increase engine noise in the interior?

Looks like that wiper fluid filter did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Finally got a 4 wheel alignment, now to enjoy the French backroads.

caused a big fungus build up inside it,

Are you using the correct screenwash as I had this problem on my E91 and it turned out to be that the previous owner wasn`t using BMW screenwash as it has something in it to stop this build up .

Not quite - it's a different piece of foam (2 pieces actually, although one of them can be accessed when changing the cabin filter).

On some models there is a length of tubing in the engine bay that connects the air intake and the firewall of the cabin. Inside it are 2 pieces of foam that absorb some of the engine/intake sound. Removing them increases the volume of what is pumped into the cabin.

You'll find more detail here: https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=88759

I musn't be! Although I wasn't aware of any requirement to use a certain screen wash either.

This hasn't happened on any other car that I've owned. My wife's car (Fabia) and my daily (F10) both use the same screenwash, and neither are showing any of these symptoms.

That the Z4 is stationary/dormant for longer periods is the only differentiating factor I can think of.

From what I remember there was a debate on another BMW site about whether it was caused by a reaction between different types of screenwash being used instead of sticking to just one . I think the final decision was to stick to BMW own as it also contains antifreeze so was a relatively cheap option .

Post a pic of what you did, if you have some!
Really sorry, but I'm crap at remembering to take photos.
All I have is a before and after of the fog light assemblies.
But basically the steps were:
1. Remove the lights
2. Soak in hot water
3. Carefully prise the lenses off
4. Clean and paint the back sections
5. Fit the cheap-o DRL units with the sticky pads provided onto the base of the back section.
6. Drill a small hole through the bulb holder to pass the wires through.
7. Refit the bulb holder and feed the wires through.
8. Fill the rear of the bulb holder with gasket sealant to make it waterproof.
9. Drill a couple of small holes in the bottom face of the lens to help prevent future condensation problems.
10. Refit the front lens using a suitable sealant
11. Bolt it back into the bumper.
12. Splice the DRL wires into the fog light wires. Have to remove the plug to do this. Also worth a trial fit first as I found the DRLs only work with the wires one way round. I used aircraft in-line splices with heat-shrink sleeves, but any method that is waterproof will do.

So currently, to get the DRLs to work I have to switch on my sidelights, then switch on the front fogs.
There are other options to run an ignition live from the fuse box to have the DRLs always on without any need for other lights. It's a personal choice and I went for the simplest answer.

Went for a simple drive from the Netherlands to Hatfield and back, where I met up with [ref]BigWinn[/ref] to collect some parts he very kindly stored and dropped off for me. Absolute gent!

1150km, two channel tunnel crossings and a quick lunch with my sister while I was on the right side of the canal. Long day, but a good one. The little Alfa held up like a champ, munching miles like it was a larger car than it actually is :driving:

I'd never had that issue with any other car either, but had it with an E46 3 Series then my 2nd E86. After cleaning out the reservoirs and filters I stuck to Prestone screenwash (as it's cheap in Tesco) and never had another problem with either of them for the 3 years I owned them.

My E90 3 Series seems to have only ever been filled with BMW fluid so I use that as the reservoir is behind the wheelarch liner. :headbang:

Thanks for the procedures and photos. :) Seems like the weather there is quite rough on the lense assembly. I will take a look at mine to see what shape they are in and curious to see if they have LED strips like that on Amazon.

Quite an improvement! Day and night time pics would be interesting to see.

I doubt mine has been removed, but would be interesting to see how it sounds without the foam installed. Thanks for the info! :)

Will try to remember night photos later.
I got a pair of DRLs from EBay for £4.39 !
Just need to measure up the length you can fit in.
They came with strong adhesive pads so I simply stuck them to the bottom of the light fitting.
