What have you done to your car today?

Chasing down non-functioning rear PDC, I removed the rear bumper and didn't like the state of the steelwork.
Twisted knot cup-wire brush, Kurust, and paint. This will get waxoiled before going back too.

The car's ready and waiting for a used PDC sensor off Ebay.

Top work  This is on my to do list. I'm planning on a full rear subframe/suspension refurb next winter so I may cheat a little and get it blasted/powder coated at the same time :D 20220109_152950.jpg

Yeah, I resisted pulling out the back end for now :)

I’m desperately trying to offer up the same resistance to finding a slightly inappropriate pun in that statement right now

Car dropped off this morning at my local BMW indy for its annual torture test aka its MoT.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Last MoT saw it having an advisory for 'Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))' but having spoken to a couple of mechanic mates they said a lot of testers will use that terminology as a matter of course if they can't determine the state of the surface of the brake pipes but they appear in reasonably sound condition.

Hate this, always find it nerve racking waiting for the garage to call with the verdict!

Brake lines on the Z4 (and most cars) corrode.

They are often greased to slow down the corrosion but will eventually need replacing.

Kunifer is often used as a replacement as it is easy to shape

She passed!!! They've just phoned to say its all passed apart from a broken 'bulb holder' in one of the rear lights. They attempted a solder repair to it first before they see if they decided it was going to need a replacement part - the repair worked fine.

Not really sure which part of the rear light they are referring to, assume its the metal track like thing that sits inside and runs around contacting all the bulbs.

Chuffed!!! And no mention of the grease covered brake pipes either!

And no overheating  a result all round

All good there m8, took car to the same indy again since they were great the last time sorting the waterpump out

They managed to solder the bulb holder contact thingy that was iffy. They've quoted for a brand new rear light unit as apparently it all comes as one part and you can't get the individual parts separately (facelift LCI E85 LED rear lights) - around £200 plus VAT for a new unit from BMW!! Will see how long the repair lasts and might not both if it holds okay.

Had my service kit from Opie Oils for a couple of days so as the sun was shining today I changed the oil, oil filter, air filter & cabin filter. All of 900 miles since the last oil change but I'm getting her ready to sell sadly  .
Just need to get to the bottom of a whining sound near tickover rpm. Thinking either an air leak or possibly tensioner pulley or perhaps water pump. Air intake pipe on order so will start with that. I'll get it sorted one way or another before putting her up for sale.

Fitted a Z4M clutch stop to my E85 2.5 yesterday. Already have a genuine ZHP gearknob which helps improve gearchange throw no end but the clutch stop seems to also assist a bit too. Cheap mod at £13. Might try the CDV delete at some point too.

:( Are you going to replace it ?

Well yes, sort of. Her indoors has finally retired and we really can't justify keeping 3 cars. So the plan is to sell all 3 and start afresh. We're planning on getting a main driver that we'll both use and a 4 seater convertible. That combo will work better for us in the long term. So maybe a 3 or a 6 series drop top or I may venture to another manufacturer. I'll miss that cracking feeling you get when driving the Roadster though :( .

Seems like a sensible idea the way things are going at the moment . Good luck with the selling and let us know what you end up going for .

Removed the mirror glass just in time. Vibrated like crazy on the way home, so prayed for it to stay put. Once back, I removed the backing plate to find the glass was being held on by about half a stamp worth of glue.

Will any superglue do, or is there a particular one to use? Such as a 2-component glue?

Got the PDC working on the E86! It wasn't working when I bought the car in October. It seems I had 3 faulty sensors. It took a few ebay purchases, including a control unit to test. Beep....beep...beep..beep.beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep makes me happy. :D
