What have you done to your car today?

Also, my carbon/gloss black front grilles arrived today in the post. Have fitted them and I'm pleased with the looks - will take a photo soon and post it but the car is filthy this afternoon after a commute to and from work so I will wash her first!

Also swapped all interior lightbulbs including the boot to LED's

Nice subtle mod (well I think so), embroidered, 3M self-adhesive backing.

I like those. Where did u get them and how much please.
I had them especially made. I put the feelers out in the Z4 UK Owners Club on FB and ordered more also (take a look on there). I do have some left in a few colours if you'd like to message me. They are £11.50 a pair. For admin purposes I'm not a commercial seller

Drove mine today to work on a mates Z3 with a duff airbag module which had put the airbag light on.
It was a salvaged car with little past history when the airbag light showed up it was due to him switching on the ignition with a seat out, being new to BMW's he binned the module and sought out a used module with the same part number of the binned one. That didn't solve the problem so he got another used module, Fitted that and still didn't solve it. I became involved and put diagnostics on the car which revealed codes for both belt pretensioners, they wouildn't clear and a further code F0 Internal error showed up. It would appear the module was from a crashed car which locks up the module and sets crash data in the internal eeprom preventing the clearance of codes. A bit of research on Real oem deduced that the binned module and both replacements were in fact the wrong part numbers for the car. Next step was to source a correct module from one of the Zroadster.org forum breakers who came up trumps with a known good module. Today we first checked the resistance on both pre tensioners, they were both in spec, wiring connections under the seats inspected and looked fine. With the seats back in the car the replacement module was fitted. Battery reconnected and a battery charger put on to maintain its voltage for coding. At this stage airbag light was still on however when codes read with INPA there were none. Hit the clear codes button and the airbag light went out. Closed INPA down and opened NCS Expert to code the replacement module to the car, read the cars data from the EWS module then wrote the file to the Airbag module. Quick check on INPA confirmed all of the system units were functioning and the module was now coded to the car. Tested the airbag light with a number of ignition cycles and the light was performing correctly. Problem solved, he can now progress with a cam cover gasket replacement, a new inlet camshaft sensor that has thrown a code and both sills to be painted and refitted, he has already cleaned and rust proofed the inner sills. With a bit more work over the winter he should have quite a decent car.

Gloss black grilles with carbon surrounds fitted today. They were supposed to be all carbon, including the slats but I think I prefer them this way instead. Wasn't sure how they would look against the Montego blue but I quite like them so far.

Fitted a replacement cup holder today for the driver's side. And packed tools in the car for replacing the Bowden cable tomorrow at work

Carbon wrapped my gear surround and the small slide out panel near the handbrake. Turned out well, pleased with it as the black plastic underneath had a few annoying scratches in it. I'm looking at wrapping the brushed aluminium trim in the centre console but it is a complete faff to remove I believe so for now I decided to just do the easy parts. I think it gives a decent contrast between the light and dark pieces.

That looks really nice, is it easy to do or did you need to dismantle the whole console?

I had previously used wool wash to shampoo my hood. I decided to try Meguiars convertible shampoo this time and I am more than pleased my 18 year old hood looks new very satisfied.

Cheers!!! Yes, fairly easy. First of all, prise the leather gearstick gaiter up at a corner and pop it off. Doesn't need to come all the way off just off the plastic part as you can thread the gaiter through the plastic part as you remove it. Then the plastic gear stick surround pops off its clips - I used a small trim removal tool to get underneath it and prise it up. Take your time to avoid breaking any tabs underneath.

The hazard/locking button block pushes out from the back towards you then you can either disconnect it from the wiring block (I found mine wouldn't budge) or again, turn it on its side and squeeze it through. The small flat/curved piece further down nearer the handbrake will just slide out if you push gently down and forward.

Hope that helps!

Installed “individual” dashboard trim today (to go with the wheels lol). Centre console will have to wait as it’s a bit more involved.
I never noticed how many alu/silver trim pieces there were in the cabin before I did this; I might have to change all of them. :(

The car has been sitting in the garage unused for the last six weeks currently sorned until the springtime.
I thought it was high time the battery charger was clipped on - Its now sitting on a maintenance charge at 12,4v

Installed 2 new hood lift assist struts, 2 new trunk assist struts, took off my front bumper (yikes!), installed 2 new horns, and removed both headlights for moisture removal/drying/new rear seals.

Then, I added this long-contemplated piece: a custom rear windscreen with red LED illumination.

I'll post another photo when I get it wired.

Finally collected it from having a 4-wheel alignment to CSL spec.

It turned into a bit of a major operation so I now have new inner and outer track rod ends both sides because the originals were siezed solid and a new N/S rear lower outer ball-joint because the rubber on the existing one was twisted. :(

I'm looking forward to going for a decent drive but initial impression is it feels a bit more playful on the rear - and the steering wheel is now straight!
