Ive Sorned mine - Its gone into hibernation again. :(

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, I assume your insurer covers you when sorned?

I understand what you say- and have to admit I’ve never considered it !
I think there’s a “roadworthy construction “ clause - I’m going to ask now!!!

Seen a few people caught ou, thought it worth a mention.

Vanos Seals replaced with X8R replacements.

Really pleased with it, would thoroughly recommend! :)

Yes, that's the heavier ZHP one. Had one on my previous Coupe and it really is much better than the OE fitment.

If you do buy one just make sure it is the genuine BMW one with that part number.

I have just fitted new rear lower coilspring rubbers and fitted upper ones from a 3 series e46 to increase the ride height by 8mm on back ... has stopped the bottom dragging on my drive hump ... no difference in handling that I can detect, maybe slightly less jarring on bumps due to slightly thicker rubber on top mount

Just had an email from the broker:-

Further to our conversation in connection with the above policy and sorning the vehicle over the winter months. Your insurer Highway have come back advising, they normally don’t cover SORN or laid up vehicles. One of the reasons is they are giving comprehensive cover when this is not needed. Cover should be downgraded to something like accidental damage + fire and theft , fire and theft cover only or a laid up policy, unfortunately they don’t have these cover types available.

They have agreed to continue cover up until your renewal date on the 10/03/2021 at that point the policy will expire. We will at that point need to look for a new provider for you
.

Perhaps they would rather I didn’t reduce the risk over the winter months - especially so as I wasn’t asking for any cost reduction!

[ref]ronk[/ref], yep, totally weird and I don't understand it. Worth knowing however as we all know insurers will wriggle out of sa claim if they can.

I can’t understand it

If I’d been asking for cash back I could have understood their reluctance. I bet there are more claims in the dark days of winter!

Ordered a ZHP gearknob from the seller ocsltd linked to earlier. Looking forward to getting it fitted and trying it out.

Those who have swapped over gearknobs, whats involved in removing the old one and fitting the new one? Does the old one just pull off or is it held on with a small grub screw for example? Ta.

Pull firmly and choose: face or balls. You’ll end up hitting either depending on that very decision.

The original is held on with no external factors such as grubs or the like. Simply pull up to remove.

Best to open the roof . Stand the seats and pull up firmly - as others have advised, try and avoid damage to the family jewels.

Anticipate the trajectory if you can.

Wet sanded and polished a repair I had to do on a wheel arch where I caught a sticking out screw on my workshop door frame. How I hadn't noticed the screw before I'll never know
