What have you done to your car today?

What a day!!

Did the vanos today in probably the hottest day of the year. Can’t say it was night and day different but it did feel better.

On with the bushings!!
If my experience is anything to go by, you will start to notice the engine getting smoother over the next 100-150 miles.
The ECU has to basically forget what it was doing before and adapt to a whole new set of feedback.
OK, so that is not the fanciest explanation, but for an engines/airframes trained techie, it's as close as I come to the ethereal world of software and electrickery. :D

I get that. I have also been driving rather sedately so that may have something to do with it

Not been able to drive for a few weeks but today without even washing it I got in and drove it. Not far but it was awesome.

Had a 120mile 5 hour round trip to see the Emley Moor transmitter via Ladybower, Strines, Langsett, Emley Moor, Holme moss, Glossop, Snake pass, Bamford, Balsow, back to Bolsover. Great weather with roof down, a stop for some lunch and lovely scenery, oh the lovely sound track from my straight six with Milltek exhaust :D

Drove from Warwick to Glasgow. Still had a quarter tank of fuel left!! Was touching 40mpg at one point!

My commute to work is 40 miles each way, almost all motorway. I typically sit around 60-65 on way in, bit faster coming home obviously and I can see over 5O mpg in comfort and high 40's in sport.

My 718 would give low 40's on the motorway at legal speeds but that was 300hp though lighter than the Z4.
Quite frankly I was amazed at the mpg on the commute, was expecting the same as the Porsche.

Changed the valve cover gasket and broke a stud.... :headbang:

Fortunately it was an easy fix. :P

Then I realized it was the oil filter gasket that was leaking.... :headbang:

Spare subframe cleaned, shot lasted and epoxy primed, and 3.46 diff cleaned and shot blasted. Might not go on any time soon as it'll be a slow build. Need to clean up and prep the rest of the rear end sat in the shed now!
Poly bushes next :D

This arrived today. Its taken just over 5 weeks to get here from when I ordered it. It wasn't too difficult to fit but the instructions are pretty poor if I'm honest.

I know these are popular with the ///M boys but there can't be too many other 3.0si zeds with one of these.

Unfortunately it started to rain just as I was putting my tools away so I've no idea how it sounds yet.

Before anyone tells me not to be so soft, we're off to a car show on Sunday and I'd just finish cleaning it.
