What have you done to your car today?

Left the airbag light club :)

I bought the car with the light on, so ordered the AC808 code reader but it couldn't read the codes. Just got -- as the table and 38 as the only code which isn't a valid combination according to the instructions but suggested variable voltage from a table that had a code 38 on it.

Stripped the center console out and found corrosion on the terminals for the airbag ecu, cleaned it up but got the same result so assumed the unit was fried.

Ordered another from Lithuania and the bcable to code it when it arrives but in the mean time I've managed to clear all codes with ISTA+ so the airbag ECU will be up for sale when it arrives.

As I'm not a smoker, I brought my car more up to date with a Twin USB / Voltmeter unit in place of the cigarette lighter. I chose one with an on/off button as the power wire is always live.

After quite a bit of dremmel use, it fits perfectly.

Nice  I like a bit of dremmeling, do you have a link?

I have this one, which allows you can turn off the voltmeter display if you so wish. I found that you can't actually see any light once the lid is closed and battery consumption over two weeks is negligible, so I never turn it off.

Paired with right angle cables and a bit of routing through the dash, you won't need to have the lid open so the interior always looks clean. Here's a video of when I did this to my E85 (different socket than the one I linked/use in my E86).

Newly powder coated gun metal grey MV2s courtesy of (https://www.facebook.com/hampshirepowdercoating/) plus finally got round to getting my drivers window professionally replaced (due to scratching from grit in the seal). Good job too, the first attempt by them exploded the glass, so they had to get another one ordered in :o .
I very nearly bottled the wheel colour change to stay stock Reflex silver but I'm pleased with the results, it looks more modern now. Coupes are good looking cars - but I am biased!
Next job will be to get it machine polished.

Very neat job indeed that 👍.

Fitted a boot lid liner panel to my Z3 the other day, so fitted another one to the Z4, made up a hardboard panel to fit the depression shape of the inside of the boot lid and used some van lining material to cover it by using contact spray adhesive. Secured to the lid with some self tapping screws in places on the lid that allowed the screws to screw in without contacting the outer skin and causing dents. Looks better than the bare lid.

That was an optional extra on an e30- se spec

Good job

Finally got the correct side headlight kit to repair the two broken brackets

Front of the car back on!

Will the unit clear the airbag warning light? My dog triggers mine when she sits on the passenger seat (weird I know) so I could do with something that clears the codes rather than paying my mechanic every time I need the MOT done.

If it does clear the light, how much would you want for it?

Cheers. Paul.

Sounds like your airbag ecu is probably fine if your mechanic is able to clear the light and it's triggered by the dog. You may have a problem with the seat occupancy sensor but reading the codes from the ecu when the light is on will indicate what's triggering it.

To clear my light (and read the codes) I used the silver cable from bcables. It does an awful lot and you need a laptop and a bit of IT savvyness to use it so there are simpler options if you just want to clear the light and read codes. A lot of people recommend the Creator 310+.

This recent thread for example https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=129630&p=1842333&hilit=airbag+light#p1842333

Hope you get it sorted and if you do get the codes I'm sure you'll find plenty of help around here to decipher them

Hi, not sure how old the post was about the paper clip mod but my ash tray lid won’t stay closed either. I am struggling to see where the paper clip mod is in the pics shown. Is it just the one screw under the removable ashtray to remove the whole unit.

Cheers
Al

I bought one of these recently and it’s well worth the money.

Can cycle the abs brake pump thingy when changing brake fluid and all sorts. More than enough features for the occasional tinkerer.

I was getting the DSC warning lights and just went for an MOT. Code was for pressure sensor 1. Knew it would be a fail, mentioned it to the tester who just smiled.

Not only did he pass it, he fixed the problem. :o Must have knocked it when I changed the shocks.
Two new tyres yesterday. I’m buzzing.

Nil advisories.

Wrapped grill, pillars and one wing mirror in gloss black (just ran out of time for the second mirror, not a look I am going for on purpose!)

Enjoying experimenting with the wrapping knowing I can just pull it off when I like!

Zulu4, I will get back to you. Gone away for the weekend.
I have to give it another coat and then seal it. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi all, Been away from the group for a couple of years. The car has been sadly stuck in the garage and decided to sell our daily car and use the Z4 instead. This has led to a pretty busy week !

Monday - MOT
Tuesday- Focal ibus 2.1 install (wow !)
Thursday - engine oil change using liqui Moly 5w-40
Gearbox and diff oil change & LUK clutch
Friday - new fuel cap, ZHP gear stick and Air con re-gas (groupon offer through ATS)
Eibach 12mm spacers all round

Next week - braided brake lines & oil change
Focal 165as3 3 way components if I can get hold of them

Just looking into HID as I forgot how horrendous the z4 halogen lights are. Just catching up on all the forum posts and it seems like new projectors are really needed to take advantage?

How was wrapping the wing mirror ? I'm toying with the idea of doing mine. Did you do it in situ or take it off ? Did you use one piece of wrap or several ?
