What have you done to your car today?

_20210220_155340.JPG

First wash in 4 months. Still doesn't move on its own (clutch is fried), but it did need a clean as it was covered in bird poo and all sorts of debris from the bushes.

Really need to get my skates on and figure out what to do. Strip it for parts, fix it or sell as is?

At the moment it's letting water in (looks like it's where the roof motor is), the bonnet won't open (my guess is the cable is stuck or broken. I replaced the cable a few years ago) the clutch is knackered and the exhaust is blowing where the downpipe meets the mid section.

So yeah, it needs money spent on it, probably worth more in parts

I think it looks minted. I'd be fixing what needs fixed. If not, first dibs on that front bumper 😂

Surely it’s worth fixing those issues, you could have the car for years after getting that work done.

Belting looking Zed ! If you sell it or worse scrap it I think you'll regret it for a very long time indeed :(

Since the garage was warmer and that the car was nose first and still waiting the eccentric sensor, which is due Monday, I had a tiny ding on the wheel arch, which is hardly noticeable needing to be sorted. You can hardly see it before I started , it was that small, but had time to do it. So, using the glue puller, after 4 or 5 pulls, the dent was about 99% sorted. Enough as not to be really noticeable now to the eye from looking down the side from the front. Then gave it a mop over that side as seemed to be some scratches , like bush scuffs, which was before my ownership and then a wax with Collinite Elegance

Also tidied the bench, sorted the nuts, bolts etc for the rocker refit ,potentially Monday evening. Wife has been primed for ' cable holding out the way wench ' :)

I'm hopefully getting the existing piece scanned, and a new 3D model to be made, if successful, I'll share the drawings. At the moment the screen is detached from it''s casing, probably going to go in the bin..

Have you got any photos of the casing, I was toying with the idea of trying to mount a new screen in the original casing and hopefully having it still lift and close. Not sure if it would be feasible or not.

Not 100% sure as my screen wasn’t going up or down, but still working. Here’s the casing where it sits, actually two pieces.

Interesting, thanks. So the raise lower motor and mechanism is in the screen unit rather than the housing?

I checked the fuses for any parasitic draw from the battery with a thermal imaging camera.

Total shame if you do scrap it but if you sadly do, can I take your wheels. :|

Mainly yesterday:

Sounds great and makes me feel like its 100hp faster!

Next was the rear suspension, which was quite easy apart from torqueing up the strut nut, once the car was on the ground (and my lost 16mm socket and spanner!) The rear now sits 2 inches up over the wheel and is level. I should have noticed this!

Top Tips! get new top mounts and bump stops, I will have to do this again when they arrive! probably do springs as well.

When taking out the boot apart it was easy with this video guide: (Z4 Coupe)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c27_0KS2wvI&t=538s

It is clear that someone has been in here before as some screws were mis matched and part of the LH liner was ripped. So I put common screws in and new trim clips.

I had to cut a line in the foam to get at the mounts, I could not free it to pull down like the video suggest.

Also having a lift helps!

Did you manage to avoid dropping a spring or nut into the boot lid gaps? I narrowly avoided it when I changed mine but it was a close call.

Yeah managed to save those from the abyss, but the old light was so badly damaged the black plastic part had got caught up in the hole and i pretty much had to destroy it to get it out

Collected a minty-mint set of original 437M’s in Ferric Grey for my E89 last night...

Spent around 3hrs this morning washing, treating with fallout remover, alcohol clean to remove any residue followed by a coating of Gtechniq C5..... currently curing 8)

Scosche wireless magnetic mount fitted, I hate wires so this does the job great. :D
Bit of engineering to make a bracket to go on underside if the dash and some plumbing in with wires, but all neat and tidy...

Sort of, the motor is bolted to the side of the piece.

The only issue is getting the cable off the piece as the wire is put through the hole on the side. I had to make a slight cut to pull it through. If you don’t need the display, you could cut the cables, but I thought better of it this time.

Cheers, very happy with them... I know they’ve been done a fair bit on the E89, in the same way that CSL’s have been done a lot on the E85/E86, but hey look excellent IMHO and they’re forged. Light, strong and not made of glass like most of the standard E89 19’s

Have to say, your new perches look much more at home than the previous M3 seats

EDIT - don’t know what’s happened with the quote there :?
