What have you done to your car today?

I think they just wanted to sell me a set of over priced plates with an Advert for Sytner on them , lucky I had a spare set !

Where are you taking it for an MOT in Feb 2022?

Popped over to see Durham Dave to have my roof motor relocated as a precaution.

For years I’ve been taking my cars to a small garage in the village which is within walking distance £45 and you get to stand and watch and chat to the tester, bloody brilliant. This year Sytner phoned me and offered to do it for £35.65 so I thought I’d save a few quid as both my cars are due a test this month. I’ve never had a fail on the plates before and they’ve been on 3 Zeds all in the same format. :(

We’ve just had a £100 fine through the post on my sons car for his plate spacing. They followed him displaying this :-

When apparently it should be this :-

They didn’t even stop him and speak to him. Just sent the fine through in the post. And it’s even more of a piss take when they don’t even space it properly themselves !

Perhaps I should put this in a separate thread to warn everyone else. I don’t know if they’re having a crack down but I see far worse plates every day so I’ve no idea why they’ve picked on him and only 50 yards from home on his way to work in the morning too

Took the cover off her today. Not seen her for 6 months  . Removed the CTek & checked her over. As usual the trip computer & clock had reset to 000 & --:--. Reset the clock & fired her up, I'd forgotten how smoothly that straight six runs. Great to hear that sound again :D . Now booked in for MOT & full service on March 8th. She's not been MOT'd since April 2019 & has done less than 1500 miles since then due to one thing & another. I hope & must get out in her more this year else I'll seriously have to consider selling I think  . Here's to more happy miles this year :driving: .

That is absolutely shameful, I’m a retired cop and I was always taught if it’s legible and can be read easily then let it go. With everything else that’s going on in the country hammering tax paying motorists for petty offences is a poor state of affairs !

Got to ask though, theres not much difference between the legal one and the illegal one so why bother making the one thats illegal?

I purchased it on eBay and that’s how it came.
But having worked in ANPR for years and also owning 111 OJX. I found that whenever I checked my own reads it often read as 1110 JX so the split should have in fact helped ANPR differentiate the O as a letter and not another number (zero) 11110 J

The gap was 54mm and not the required 37mm. OK it was wrong but all the police have done is pissed of a 19 year old who now has far less respect for the Police than he had previously. They could have just had a word.

Subsequently, we watched Police interceptors the other night. They stopped a man in a cloned van who had no MOT, no insurance and only a provisional licence. At the end of the programme it said the Court later dropped all charges so despite all that he got away with everything

Where’s the justice ?

I posted about something similar just after Xmas

https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=126444&hilit=Stopped

Same as you, bought a set from eBay which clearly stated road legal, there was an additional 11mm spacing between the KM and 02. I never specified the spacing they came that way. No p!sing about with fonts, screws, typeface etc. They told me they were doing me a favour only giving me a producer. I was raging but maybe after what’s happened to your boy they were.

Still rubbish and as you say they’ve given him a different attitude and opinion towards them, I never had that problem after my recent stop............... that ship’s long since sailed

My MD got a letter through the post from Surreys finest  . Advising on a fine for spacing on his number plate. He promptly went down to the cop shop and showed them the plate and it was considered within spec and legal, so the fine was thrown out. Copper said they cant measure it while driving from behind, so basically wasted his time to prove it being correct. There is bigger national issues to deal with............
It was even made by BMW in Guildford , when he bought the car and they put his plate on .

I have tö admit to have great difficulty in seeing the difference between the “illegal “ plate and the good one!
They both look clear and unambiguous to me.

My E86 failed it's MOT. I've only done 3,000 miles between tests but got the work done by my local indy Brystone.
Rectified play in both front lower control arms, replaced both front lower control arms and rear mounts. Carry out full four wheel alignment.
This was a bit of a shame as I had just got the alignment done. I had noticed the steering had become a bit heavier but it is super light now which I'm not sure I like but wil get used to. Cost £725 plus the MOT.
Also got them to clear an EML which was due to the heater element (ODB2 reader thought that 4 of the O2 sensors had gone!). Cost £365
Replaced the 3rd brake light at a cost of £125
I fitted a new battery from Tayna, the original BMW one finally had had enough cranking over in the cold weather.
I also tackled the sagging drivers Msport seat with some cable ties - I've got pics so will post up

Replaced the bowden cable in driver's door handle - I can finally open the door without excessive force.

There's a very good fix for that, I found it only documented on german Z4 forums - you need the elastic mat (actually it's a few steel wires) from non-sport seats. Nobody knows why the sports seats came without them.

Part no.2 on the diagram:

How did you find the bowden cable replacement, was a nightmare for me, bloody sausage fingers

I assume you are referring for the one for the driver/passenger doors? I am looking to do this soon as I have just ordered the part.
