Unfortunately sometimes we don't have a choice but given the chance you are right about mismatching tyres. I currently run mismatched tyres on purpose, rears are pzero and mp4s while the fronts are mp3s and like you mentioned I have fortunately not had any issue with handling.. The reason for the pzero is due to having a nail and stock availability at tyre shops and obviously the fronts always last longer.

I would never run a BMW with mismatched tyres, had so many experiences where it is horrid.
DSC light flashing, not feeling planted, through to feeling positively dangerous.
You can be lucky and be OK, but why risk it on a car like this?
