What have you done to your car today?

Swapped my M Sport multifunction wheel for the thinner-rimmed MF version bought on the forum a while back. Initial thoughts were it was slightly too thin versus the M wheel which I find a little too thick (as per some other reviewers), but have done a few miles now and liking it. I'll refurb the M wheel and probably put it away.

Coolant level low light came up on the dash yesterday. Forgot to check the level last night when I got home from work!!!

This morning after getting to work, I checked and it was low, but not excessively low. Topped it up with some bottled water and thought that was that.

On the way home the light came back on, so I knew there was a leak somewhere. Pulled up and I could see it leaking under the car. Bonnet open and it was clear it was something at the top of the expansion tank.

Looks like my top hose is buggered :headbang: went to the dealer quick and ordered one in for tomorrow. £62 for a bit of rubber and plastic!

So for the next 24 hours I will be commuting in my sister's mini convertible

Send it back and buy the one I haven’t put in the for sale section yet!

:headbang: unfortunately I need it asap. I can't keep my sisters motor long term

Washed it. Found some pigeon crap had damaged the paintwork.
It's so corrosive. I used some Meguire's compound, went at it for some time, improved but the marks are there now, permanent. It's depressing how destructive bird poo is. My street is beautifully lined with trees........It's a daily job.
Don't put it off, wash it off as soon as.....

trick given to me by a body shop. Clean the car so you are just left with the mark. Get a hot air gun and heat the area that is marked until it is hot. Obviously not so hot that the paint burns but hot enough to allow the top coat to flow slightly. The marks will disappear.

Based on what you've said a Royals refurb of your standard wheel with the double padding option would be in "the Goldilocks Zone" for you

Thx Jl, That sounds like there's a very fine line between hot and to hot!
A bit scary.
I was thinking of getting out the dual action rotary and giving it a treatment with mildly aggressive compound.

I’ve tried that on one of my other cars and didn’t quite work out. Staying with a factory wheel is ideal so will live with it for a bit. I have one other really nice SE wheel that I could mess with if it came to that 👍🏻

Screenshot_20190830-043338_Amazon Shopping.jpgHad new front struts oem and oil filter housing gasket replaced :D no more oil leak and the 15 year old struts replaced can actually go over speed bumps without fear of grounding out some nice white LED bulbs and gaptech + and a carbon fibre auto gear insert really happy with all the work booked in Tuesday for hunter alignment :D

Like the auto gear insert  . How does it attach, do you have to remove the original? My silver one is very scruffy so I might get the red one to go with my seats.

Bought some CDs for (4 for£1) from the recycling centre shop to go in the CD changer I've just acquired! :D

hi mate no just clean original it comes with 3m tape attach to back of insert then it clips top and bottom and sticks the full length

Finally found some time to get the Carly OBD and app working on the Android phone I keep for this stuff. What a faff to get this sorted as it is really not intuitive but anyway, got there in the end.

A few days ago I met up with a local chap who owns a nice black E89 here in Spain, in the Sierras north of Madrid and he took me for a really tour of the mountains and some lovely driving - with great scenery and routes. We did over 100 kms and stopped for an 'apertif' and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Some photos below:

The night before there were massive storms in Madrid, we got heavy rain, thunder and lightening but missed the brunt of the storm where we are in the north. In the morning as I headed out it was neat to see some beading going on on X3WKA:

First stop was a dam at a water reservoir - there is even a Roman road here showing how active the region has been over the years:

We then got onto a load of really well maintained roads going through Pine woods and up the sides of mountains - beatiful. The photo below shows the view from the top of the road we were climbing up with a lot of gusto!

At the top we were greeted with this view (we were at about 2,000 yards altitude according to Satnav):

This is my host, Jorge, and I:

On the way down we stopped off at village with a nice castle - Buitrago de Lozoya:

We just plonked the cars in the middle and took some photos - drew lots of admiring glances from the locals :D

All in all a great half day with some great roads and great driving!

Hope to do it again next year.

No trips around Spanish mountain roads for me, just an hour or two using my £2.99 ebay drill attachment on my headlights. I'm not jealous at all! Quite pleased with the results though.

Looks like a great drive with some beautiful scenery  .
Some of those pics with the cars side by side made me hope you both didn't try to get out of your cars at the same time :o

Fitted a clear 3rd brake light. Think it breaks down the amount of Red on the rear
That is some seriously random places to screw your plate onto your bumper.
Why didnt you just use sticky pads and not bother with the screws.

Replaced the split top coolant hose, filled up the coolant and bled the system. It now runs perfect again

A note to anyone with coolant issues. Don't leave it and make sure you bleed the system after! I remember when the expansion tank split years ago. We replaced it but didn't bleed the system correctly. I drove for about 5 minutes before the temperature gage went into the red. Had to pull over about 5 times before I made it back home. Won't make that mistake again
