What have you done to your car today?

I had assumed that these were in original condition as they aren’t the worst diamond lipped 108s I’ve seen, however it turns out they were refurbished by Lepsons in April 2015, so they had only been on the road for 2.5 years since they were done .

Proves that an expensive refurb is no guarantee of a long lasting finish, not even on the centres!

Thankfully a carefully positioned heat gun helped all of the bolts to come out with any drama. These will be going to City Wheels later this week when I pick up my refurbished 224s.

Chris

I just sold my 108s before they got too sad!

But at least you got yours apart before the bolts decided they'd rather shear than get removed!

Looking forward to seeing how your Coupe looks on the 224s!

Ill need to try this Chris - I have a set I tired to split ages ago but the bolts kept breaking! How much force did you put into it when the wheel was hot?

Still a reasonable force, but considering I could not get the first bolts to move at all without any heat it definitely made a difference. I set the heat gun up with a flat nozzle on it, so it was directing heat across two bolt positions at a time. I undid the first of the bolts and then rotated the wheel around so that the second bolt remained Inc the heat zone whilst the next one around started preheating. I used only a normal 1/2” drive tommy bar, set in the middle, and applied torque to both ends at the same time so my hands now have blisters even though I was using gloves! Only took about 90 minutes to get all 80 bolts out.

Battery Charger hooked up and covered up with a soft breathable cover in the garage for winter hibernation.

Just the the usual of hoping for an early spring now :?

Nice pressie in the post today

Bulk oil ordered, 20l of the stuff for £56 isn't too shabby!

Quantum Platinum 5w40 from eBay, which it turns out is just rebadged Fuchs Titan GT1. LL04 approved so all is good, and I know Fuchs are well regarded too.

20l?! How many miles and oil changes do you do in a year?!

Will do the next 2 services on both the 2 cars we have, so 2 bottles will be sat for around 18 months, no issue with modern high quality synthetics

I dropped off the 108s for refurbishment and picked up these beauties!

Meanwhile, I prepped a spare set of brake callipers for powder coating. I had them shot blasted last week but didn’t pick them up straightaway, so they had a few surface rust spots already and a dose of rust remover was required. Then masked up with high temp tape and delivered to my local powder coater.

What?!???
This have a thread behind it?

It is briefly mentioned in my withdrawn car sale thread but I will do a more of a write up later once I get the car back from it’s current works. Basically I had to replace the rear wing due to corrosion and I bought a secondhand one in the same colour but it had some marks and needing painting anyway, so I asked the body shop to weld up the aerial hole at the same time whilst it was still off the car. I have a DAB head unit so it isn’t used anyway.

Me - Bought It!
Now get driving it. :driving: :D
Though not in the wet?

Collect it this Sat. Can't wait! After owning 4 e30's and a Mk1 MX-5 , I have learnt the hard way about RWD and the wet. I am actually going to my first car meet with it on Sunday, which will be the first one I've gone to in 4 years!
