What have you done to your car today?

Changed engine, gearbox and diff oils as well as auxiliary belts and oil filter. Engine oil sample is on its way to Millers for analysis...... fingers crossed :D

you'll know back within a week, very quick service.

can someone help me understand what the benefit is of sending off an oil sample? Are there further things you could do if the results come back with a problem? I'm thinking whether it's worth me doing this also as a service as due in this summer.

Also, can you tell me when you should look at changing the aux belts?

Thanks,

Lewis.

For me the answer to all your questions is peace of mind.....I bought the car at the end of last year, the car had been serviced by an indie less than 5 K ago but again for peace of mind I know now it is the correct oils and quantity that are in the car. As you are probably aware the S54 engines in the Z4M's can have issues with both top and bottom ends of the engine, the bottom being the big end bearings, so an oil analysis should flag any issues i.e. copper content in the oil etc. All being well oil wise I will attend to the potential top end issues....Vanos oil pump drive, seals, Cam sprocket cap screws etc. The belts I changed as it's only a 10 minute job and they are cheap to buy.......cheaper than an overheated engine due to a belt breaking. As it turned out the main auxiliary belt was good but the power steering belt was starting to crack.

Hit a sodding pothole & buckled the front wheel......hoping local tyre bods can repair the alloy tomorrow. :x :x :x

Ouch! Bad luck. Fingers crossed it can be sorted, worth moaning to the council you never know...

Decided to properly clean my wheels this afternoon, then realised I that I should seal them to help keep them sweet. Stopped working after doing one to go out and buy some wheel sealer, will do on the others tomorrow. Even so, the first one has come up very well. Got 4 new wheel badges to fit as well.

What is it??

Yup, it's the clutch delay valve. There's lots about it on the forum but in short it restricts the flow of fluid so no matter how fast you Lift the clutch pedal the action is only so fast. It makes the early gears 1-3 plain awkward and also helps wear your clutch out faster.

Not had a chance to drive it yet. Touch wood it won't need a bleed and improves the change.

Cheap Landsail tyres won't have helped.

Landsail's were on there when I bought her (no excuse I know!) replaced the rear Landsail's with Avons last year & now need to replace the fronts with 2 more Avons now I've goosed the front!
Alloy wheel all repaired now & waiting for a pair of Avons to come in then a 4 wheel alignment just to make sure! :P

Gave it a good wax and polish this morning, after cleaning yesterday. Then took it out for a spin in the Sun for the first time in months. :driving: 8) :D

Snap....did the same with my Grandson last week.

I would very much like to think it could be hers one day!
Nice work guys. They have to learn some time, so better that we teach them, rather that some one they don't know. The first driving lesson I gave my son was in my old Fiat Coupe, in a car park on private land. He was about 15 at the time. Scared me silly, as a dog ran out in front of us. Manage to avoid it though good lad. :D :driving:

Past his test first time too.

today I have fitted my multifunction steering wheel and installed the retro fit cable after following the really useful guide on here and I am very pleased to say it works :D only downside is my stereo is still playing up following my other post :headbang: but apart from that productive day

I finally removed the hardtop, cleaned and bagged it up, now residing in the garage

Then cleaned the car after a quick spin, well more like a 20 mile spin, roof down, windows down and defuser still in the boot...bliss

Popped out to Hartside Cafe. Crazy busy up there with bikes and off-roaders so had to park in the overflow car park

Cleaned (Meguiar's), polished (Bilt Hamber) and sealed (Poorboys) all 4 wheels off the car. Also cleaned the arch liners, and checked the drains and generally killed the afternoon detailing some of the grottier areas of the car. Didn't realise the wheels are actually BBS ones.

Never buy a cappuccino there - it's from a tin of powder and crap!

Today I'm gonna drive it from London down to Cornwall for the weekend :driving:

Nice destination, whereabouts in Cornwall are you heading?
Rob

A little village called 'Minions'. It's on the highest hill in Cornwall. My folks retried down there. Family reunion for my Mothers 70th!

Took a spin out to Polperro. Was behind a silver E85 blasting through the country lanes, not sure what road I was on. Maybe someone from the forum. :driving:

Fitted another set of 108s I picked up. Not perfect but certainly better than I had before!
Then washed, clayed and waxed - and just enjoyed the sun round the lanes!!
Is that our 2 days of summer done now? :?
