What have you done to your car today?

Treated the glass with glaco dx and fitted head supports to the m sports seats. Headrest is miles away and has no adjustment so using these to bridge the gap. Had to fit under the seatbelt guide as securing straps not long enough

What did I do to my Z4 today? I exercised the engine, gearbox and brakes taking my daughter to play football over in Brighton this morning. A mixture of wet and dry roads, but my she loves it as much as I do - and she's 11! They won 5-4 by the way, which was a good result from an energetic and hard fought game. The drive home was energetic too :)
The Z does need a good clean though....
 
Added passenger electric memory seat function to my E85 yesterday evening.

I had a spare damaged e85 electric drivers seat base ( someone cut the seatbelt mounts off) . So I swapped the motors and harness over and added a switchpack from a LHD car. Simple mod really, just need to run one CAN wire from the power seat plug to activate memory function when the ignition is on. I can confirm both seats can operate seperatley and be progrmmed for position independantly too.

Why? to prove to myself it could be done, I like my seats to both be in the same position,so memory would be good especially as I am fitting underseat subs too & all the parts were already with me other than the switch pack that cost the pricely sum of £35. I just thought why not.
 
I've been having coolant/overheating issues lately. Fun read here about my issues. Eventually the car got towed and diagnosed with a faulty headgasket. After replacing the gasket, pretty much every other gasket/seal, and some other odds and ends while they were at it, I finally got to pick my car up again today after three weeks in the shop. Happy days!

Always fun having a look inside the block!

Picked it up from the body shop after having the front bumper repaired & resprayed after nearly 20 years of (ab)use, pretty happy with how it looks and only mildly unhappy at how much it cost to do. (Too dark for pictures, another day.)
 
Fitted winter set of wheels and while doing it I greased the steering rack. Hopefully it will solve the unpleasant squeeks while turning the steering wheel at low speeds.
I also unsuccessfully looked for some rattling sounds from the back.

If by "today", you mean "the past several weeks while I take care of the backlog", then you can count...
  • Replaced the diff and MT fluids
  • Flushed the coolant
  • Installed a BlueBus
  • Replaced the cracked third brake light
  • Replaced the destroyed splash guard that had several holes in it
  • 3D Printed a screw fitting for the ashtray to replace the hole for the cigarette with an aux jack:

  • Applied some fresh foam tape from the hardware store to replace the 23-year-old foam which had been reduced to dust:

  • Took the wheels off and gave them a good ol' scrub:

Of course, the more I get done, the more things I find and want to fix. The car is sitting idle while I wait for the DISA replacement kit to arrive, so it's a good chance to take care of the outstanding cosmetic issues. There's still one piece of trim under the bumper that is completely destroyed (PN: 51717168995), but that's a job for another day (and when I feel like spending the money for another one).

If you can’t find any rattling sounds I have several and am happy to post some of them to you. 🤣

Well that's nice from you 😂

I've inspected the top mounts as the noise started after replacing those. Nothing wrong there. Then I looked from below for anything, couldn't find anything wrong. Then I discovered a missing screw that should hold the bumper and the exhaust thermal shield together, leaving the shield move around. Refitted that screw, but it turned out not to be the cause for the rattle.
I can actually hear the rattle somwhere behind me on the left and a little lower, like if it was coming from the trunk area.
It's also interesting that I can't hear the rattle if the roof is down. I also looked at the roof frame and pipes (relocated motor) but nothing.
It's confusing and annoying!

Check the manual release cable for the roof. Possibly the white plastic adjuster is rattling against the plastic trim?

I did but I don't think this is the reason. I think tist part is too small and too light to make that rattle. It's a deeper rattle from some more solid piece, could also be metallic, hard to say.
 
Sorry folks, another of my 'What have you done to your car today?' posts when in fact I haven't actually done anything to it. However....
One of my daughters (I have 5 of them, yay!) had a Hospital appointment this morning (she's only 11 so can't drive herself there lol), and its not something she has been looking forward to at all - and I really dont blame her. Not going to get in to the nitty-gritty of it, but its a bit of a long haul for her at the moment.
Super-Daddy suggested he'd take her in the Z, which she loves to bits and gets a massive grin whenever in it (much like her dad).
Just that little thing set her up for the appointment, and all went well.
My Z just gives and gives...

Could be your problem right there. They don’t have raised bumps on the rubber like OEM or Lemforder. So the metal sleeve impacts on the metal cup washer directly and makes a lot of knocking noise. I took them off my wife’s car after only about 1000 miles and already the metal washer was showing signs of wear.
