Passed its first MOT under my stewardship, with two advisories about corroded rear springs, got it booked in for that and rear dampers at the end of the month.

How badly are they corroded?If they’re not broken you can refresh them buy new dampers and do the work yourself if you’ve got a socket set and a Jack.

Not mine, but spent a few hours this morning with [ref]2.2stu[/ref], dragging his seized roof motor out of it's stinking, sodden home.
Motor was seized solid and with a thunderstorm creeping ever closer we elected to fit a spare motor I had onto his hydraulic unit.
All done with seconds to spare and another happy punter heading back to Norwich, albeit with his roof still up.

Also popped the DISA valve out for a look. Pristine condition so one less concern for Stu.

I used an orbital sander, air belt sander and various wire brush attachments on my drill.It’s not the most enjoyable job but good results can be had.I’ve got my eye on a sandblasting cabinet next

That sounds more trouble than it’s worth. Another member on here sends them off for blasting and powder coating and they come back like new. I’m not sure of the economics when rear springs are about £50 new, however there’s always a deep sense of satisfaction doing it yourself. I would love a sandblasting cabinet too

I did originally take them to a place for blasting the same time as my bbs 108’s before Xmas but things take so long here,like I’m still waiting for confirmation they’ve blasted the wheels and the springs have been on the car for 2 weeks so I think I made the right decision.

Recently had the front grill de-chromed by a mate who’s a pro wrapper….. wasn’t sure halfway through but really like the look now plus you can remove it when bored and want the standard look…

Great finish on the wrapping and must have taken ages! You can buy replacement black ones for like 40 quid off ebay FWIW

Swore at it a few times - drivers door handle refuses to open the door unless you press against the door. Inside handle works fine. Googling suggests the Bowden cable is a likely suspect and needs to be packed out to loosen. Just need it to stop raining long enough to check

Just fit a new one, they're cheap enough This is the offending article and a new one in situ.A straight forward job if a bit fiddly and long-winded as door handle, door card and door latch need removing to gain access.

Thanks for the pics - i guess you have to take the whole thing out to replace the cable anyway?

Depends on the size of your mitts. I've managed by taking the handle off and unscrewing the carrier so it can be moved over out of the way. Just about room for my small hands to reach in. Fiddly though.
