What have you done to your car today?

Just done the same on my coupe. It was a absolute nightmare. Two of the bolt were seized and needed drilling out. I only had a small area of rust however when I got at the lower front wing area there was rust starting to bubble through the length of the flat flange
I had to replace the two plastic clips, it wasn't possible to remove mine without breaking then. They have to be removed to treat the rust. Best price was from my local dealer.
Horrible job but I'm glad it's done, I'll leave it for a few weeks then do the other side.

That top one is an absolute pr!ck.
I ended up making a tool to try and make life easier.
 
Im so glad its not just me. I've got to get the replacement panels off a donor car without taking out my frustration with the angle grinder this time! Given the unavoidable pain i'm considering releasing the roof.
I might be done this time next year :thumbsup: :D
 
Not quite today but a couple of days ago …. Took the poor girl in for repair, whilst stationary at traffic lights a white van drove into the back of me, back bumper creased and paintwork damaged. Being repaired at Sytner BMW Swansea, great service from them so far however the company supplying my rental have been shocking. I had to phone a company called Auxillis to arrange a rental paid for by the other drivers insurance.
2hrs 30 minutes on the phone in a queue and after speaking to a rude agent I was informed that a BMW 4 series cabriolet would be delivered to the dealership at 8.30am when I dropped the Zed in for repair, they didn’t show up, I had to recontact them again and it arrived with me 4 hours later.
The car was duly delivered, an unloved 2019 model, stunk of cigarette smoke and on getting in to drive it for the first time I found the runflat warning light on and the pressure reading 1.6 on the OSR rear tyre. On contacting the emergency number on the key fob they asked me to take it to a local tyre fitters two days later ! If anyone has the misfortune to deal with Auxillis for anything be warned my experience with them was disappointing and second rate from start to finish.
I’ve attached a pic from the bump and a pic of the parts required to put her right. Having the wheels refurbed whilst she’s in so very exited to have her back !

As for Auxillis, glad to see you had a relatively positive experience compare to mine :rofl: one of the most shocking companies I’ve EVER has had the misfortune to deal with. It was this time of year they were supposed to provide me with a car. After much tooing and froing for weeks on the Friday of Xmas week they called at 11 am and said, really sorry but we can’t provide a courtesy car at all. I went Tonto!!! after a brief conversation (argument) with a manager he said the other option was a loss of use payment which he said was £60 odd quid which I was still ranting about until he pointed out that was per day :lol: got the car back mid/late January. Repair £1400 loss of use payment £1872 Kerrching, they were still an absolute ball ache to deal with but the payment eased the pain
 
So Andy, it appears they have form for dreadful service, I’m just hoping the paint matches, I know it’s a pain to paint plastic !
 
Recently bought an '06 Z4MR and spent most of yesterday swapping over the aluminum trim from my '04 z4. Love the contrast of the silver/black interior. The carbon trim was too plain (all black) in my opinion

Yes they do IMO, backed by your experience. I have to say, mine was front bumper and in red but the paint match was perfect. No complaints about the actual repair.

I hope your repair is also up to standard :thumbsup:

Removed a dyeing starter and replaced with a new.

Autopsy on the old Denso starter was a failed solenoid. It’s a shame they are no longer available as the motor still seems as strong as an Ox.

I got one of the attached, 3D printed the holder, a touch of 3M double sided tape and it’s secreted somewhere inside my E89 - it gives me some options to track should the car go AWOL!

That's an awful lot of work to get basic-looking Brushed Aluminium finish (that I really didn't like in my first Z4)!

I'd much rather have the carbon leather, Cirrus Aluminium or Piano Black.

Is it possible to use some metal cleaner like Brasso to bring it up a bit and make it shiny as it looks a bit dull and grey.
