What have you done to your car today?

Bought my E85 last weekend, done a full service during the week. I conveniently have a garage across the street from where I live. Bought an OBD2 scanner and read all errors, monitored car. And today I finally got to change the broken third lamp. It only had 3 leds on. While I was at it, I also changed the badge.

Next: Cupholders / interior lights, will update as soon as they arrive.

Yesterday was cleaning day

Today was initial mechanical checks
So far so good
Changed diff oil and it was the right colour
Checked DISA valve
Brake pipes all in good order

Think I’m going to have to repair/replace driveshaft boot at some point

Had intentions to wash it but first I unbolted the washer bottle to give the inside a good clean out as I had noticed it getting a bit grimy. Got it all cleaned, back in and put a little water in to make sure the pumps etc were working fine only too see all the water pouring out the bottle; the small filter for the headlight washers had gone walkabout. 1 hour of frantic searching later I finally find the thing laying on the plastic tray at the bottom of the engine bay; no way to get to it by hand but managed to nudge it to the side, took the front wheel off and got my hand in there.

It was baking hot by the time I got back to square 1 so thought 'f**k it' and went for a drive instead! Washing can wait until tomorrow morning.

Nothing on the Z4 or the Z3 today just added the finishing touches to an oil drainer that I put together with odd bits I had in the garage, plus a new plastic drain tray. Used a metal can that my concrete sealer came in which has an expanding sealing ring for the lid. To make it more manouverable I made up a dolly with wheels so it can be moved around under my car lift. Finished job by giving the dolly a coat of spray paint.

Washed it this morning , then drove it all afternoon.
Went out in it on Wednesday last and was hit by the bowel deposits of something feathered ( here's hoping) and large. It hit the bonnet with a thud and bounced onto the screen , wipers and roof . That Fusso wax was amazing and it just didnt want to stick, which is why it flew everywhere. Thought I had wiped it all off the car , but found it all in the wiper arms and blades, hence the clean. Pretty impressed with its slick finish and see how long it lasts as when jet washing , it just dumped the water off the panels

Thanks! I used this: Furniture Clinic Leather Repair... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076HSYGL6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share a couple of brushes to go into the cracks and a sponge to make it uniform. In all honesty, I didn’t spend a lot of time on it, the paint just does the job for you. It’s essential to clean the leather before, so for that I used a shoe cleaner (that I already had), it foams up and then you can scrub and wipe. Also essential to have a sponge and wipe for uniformity, otherwise you might be left with colour differences.

Three days of under/over/in/out and cleaning I’m super happy with my new Z

As it’s a year older than my last there were a few things notably more deteriorated but all done previously so happy to diy!

And it drives superbly too!

From a mate who was breaking a zed. Snapped them up before they were offered out for sale.

Lovely drive out over Dartmoor with Daugter rear gunner in MrsG's Mx5.

Bimbling back close to home a very wide low Lexus appeared in my rear view mirror.

As I turned off for home it accelerated passed making an amazing V10 noise.

Yes an LFA out and about on UK roads. The first one I have ever seen in the metal. Fantastic car. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Then a quick wipe down of the front and wheels and tucked away.

Changed the engine oil and filter, including new Viton O-rings.

Started some work on getting rid of that nasty silver plastic look of the trim, starting with the roll hoop covers and also painted the front grilles to remove the chrome and just spruce up the dulled black plastic.
Next is the steering wheel trims (once I figure out how to remove the steering wheel) and the other half of the roll hoop covers.

Is that an aftermarket tinted third brake light? It looks nice! Where did you get it?
