What have you done to your car today?

Postman just dropped this off today, now to ring round body shops to get some paint repaired around the car and have this colour matched :D
Jeez, I got a kicking for even suggesting my car get some work done to it. I'm surprised no-one has jumped on you for being so self-centred and inconsiderate!!!
Must admit I did feel like i was breaking the law dropping it off at the body shop today, although I'm still required to go into work every second week just now :x sounds like they don't have much work going for them though and businesses still need to survive, I left a pack of disinfectant wipes in there for them anyways  :poke:

That's why I ended up paying out for new roof fabric. The fold marks are really detrimental to the overall appearance of the car. It drove me mental in the end

Mine has not so many fold marks but is wearing in a couple of places where it rubs, and Iโ€™ll eventually get holes. Where did you get yours done Ben ? If I do have it done I think I will go red too 8)

I had mine supplied and fitted by monsoon in lower dicker, East Sussex  still looks fantastic all these years later.

I see monsoon do a group buy option, i've been putting off doing mine, but the marks and small holes bother me: if this discounts it a bit i'd be up for going down this route if anyone else is?

Z4 put on the lift and resumed a Diff oil change that got paused for want of a suitable 14mm Hex key to get the filler/level plug out. Its at an angle in the diff and not a lot of space to get a breaker bar or ratchet onto it. Armed with a new 14mm Hex mounted in its own socket I managed to get it seated into the plug and just about got my breaker bar on it. Considerable pressure put on the bar and it came undone. Drain plug extracted and oil drained. Still looked ok and no sparklers seen in it, discoloured a bit compared to the new oil but probably the original. New sealing washers put on both plugs and refilled with an oil can to pump the new oil in till it overflowed. Filler plug replaced then attention turned to the rusty bits on the rear subframe, cleaned down and black metal paint applied to tidy it all up.

Hi Colb - do you have any details of your home lift?

@saj77 My lift is the one you posted from ebay, supplied by BH Repairs in Mansfield, Notts. Best contact him direct, he has a facebook page and a website, you get a better price direct. Really good bit of kit, Chinese made but incredible quality. You will need a 32amp mains feed to run the hydraulic pump otherwise it will trip a 13amp circuit, initial start up of the pump will cause a 13amp circuit to trip. 32amp works fine, I have a separate circuit in the garage for 32Amp wired to a specific socket to plug into. Lifts both the Z3 and Z4 and the wifes Suzuki Alto. I can get the Z's quite high with the roof height I have, wheels will be waist high, tintop less.
It will come on a pallet on a lorry, they need a pallet truck to get it off the lorry and move it near to where you want it then its a matter of getting it off the pallet and setting it in place. For the Z's I needed scaffolding planks either side to drive the car on to clear the ramp, two thicknesses of planks either side. Planks sourced from a local wood recyling outlet. Planks were laid side by side to make a sufficiently wide runway for the wide tyres.

Best investment I have made, always managed with drive up floor ramps before but a lift makes everything more accessable and easy.

Thanks for the detailed reply. It does look a great piece of kit and I could make it work with my garage space.

The question (for me) is do I really need it or just too much time on my hands at the moment....

You can improve that roof 100% with a few ยฃยฃ spent on black shoe polish .
I've done all the roadsters i've had this way , some were a lot worse than others :(
That looks particularly bad but id say no worse than the silver MR i bought 2 yrs back which was truly shocking  get yourself some of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-Cherry-Blossom-Leather-Shoe-Polish-Black-Liquid-85Ml-Ready-Wax/223377754559?hash=item34025a09bf:g:PMkAAOSwz2lXBbAC . f
Cut the tops off & pour contents into a container then simply paint liberally onto the fabric with a 50mm paint brush ( after its had a good hoover , scrub , clean & is dry) .
Mask up paintwork before you start

Will it cover the shiney lines and will it last after downpours??

Cheers.

Once dried it wont run in the rain.
Can't say it will cover the shiny marks, you have to do your best at getting those out (or at least minimising their presence) & that is do-able
I also tried adding a sealer but in honesty I never felt it did that much.
Once you're on top of it it's easy enough to keep it that way.
Il try to find the pics of the worst one I had.

Roof done with liquid shoe polish.... thx for the tip! Miles better.

That, does look good, a massive improvement.
Does your car live outside, I'm just curious how long it lasts exposed to the weather rather than in a garage/car port etc.

Took bumper off, removed lower grill and painted gloss black to match the kidneys I done a little while back. Removed fogs and washed out all the crud and silver that had fallen off inside with the corotion.. found some LaminX I had left over from tintinting the indicators on my old E46 and used it on them, happy the condensation don't stand out like a sore thumb anymore.

hi, how easy was it to remove the lower grill? I've seen the 2 screws either side and it looks like it's clipped in all way around. Thinking of doing the same, while in isolation.

Continuation of interior wrapping. it's not perfect but i love it! :driving:

Now thats what I call a clean looking engine bay
Thanks, itโ€™s one of those lockdown jobs.
Usually gets an occasional wipe down, but as I seem to have a little too much time on my hands, I thought I would make a more thorough job.
Washed it as well as going around all the rubber trim.
I am definitely looking at things too do aesthetically to the Z on a constant basis.
When I had motorbikes, I would spend hours going over the bike cleaning every fastener, much to the amusement of mates who reckoned my bikes looked cleaner than they did when new.๐Ÿ˜€

Fitted an Amazon Echo Dot to the Zed this morning, tethered to the hotspot on my phone, works great
