What fuel?

Hi all, just picked my Zed a 2.2 with 80k and full history. Really pleased so far but is it best to run on Super or normal 95 ron? Will post pics whe I work out how to!

Welcome and glad you're enjoying ownership!

I run my coupe on 95RON usually (supermarket) with no problems so far!

I do occasionally give her a treat with some Shell Optimax or similar. Some people have reported problems with sensors in the exhaust I think when using cheaper fuels, with said faults then clearing once they switch to more premium fuels.

I think the six cyl engines were designed to run on super-unleaded, for the extra 50p or whatever for a tank it's worth it for peace of mind, it's supposed to make the engine cleaner inside as well :driving:
Regards

Normal unleaded will be more than good enough. You might get a few more mpg out of super so find the cost evens out.

Bottom line is either will be OK.

I would do a search on the forum and you will see a huge amount if posts on the subject.

I don't think there has been a definative answer to the question yet.

I always use (& previous owners) shell vmax. Higher octane and very consistent across the country. Mines a z4m but I used 1 tank in 4 in my old standard 3.0ltr and noticed the difference every time. 8)

This one relates to v power.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess it's a case of give both a try and see what how they perform. As for the pics... I'm obviously a bit of a thicko as I've tried and failed. Love the car though!

Or any other performance car forum.

This one's been discussed everywhere for years - And the consensus appears to be - nobody knows.

HTH :D

On this forum - a 2 bullet point summary for the E85/86 would be:

- All engines (note exception below) will happily take 95 Octane without issue. With 99 octane fuel economy may improve, along with (debatable) slight improvement in performance

- S54 engine found in the M variant, most owners will tell you that the engine doesn't run as well on 95, so 99 is preferred.

Try both fuels and see for yourself. Won't do any harm

Unless there's a huge (5p/ltr+) price difference I have always fuelled my BMWs with super where possible. I believe they are fitted with knock sensors and are built for 98+ octane, but will run with 95 obviously.

I did see someone on a forum did a fairly scientific test on an e46 320i and they got enough miles more out of the super to offset the cost, or there was nothing in it either way. So I go for Super, with all the benefits.
