What Fuel Due you Use

Thinking of changing my regular fuel From Shell Super to Tesco Super as the 3% cashback I get from Shell is being stopped and can gain from the Tesco 5p offers etc.

Would be keen to find out what other members use. CJ is a Tesco Super user I believe so that fills me with confidence (excuse the pun)

I also use Shell Visa Card and had been told cashback will be reduced to 1% from 3% from October. But I still get double points for every litre of V-Power I buy. But I think V-Power is the only fuel that has 99 RON. BP Ultimate has only 97.

Sainsbury's Super Unleaded should be the best supermarket fuel. Many people say Tesco fuel is crap. I never use supermarket fuel, so I can confirm that.

Usually Shell Vpower but filled up with Tesco 99 last night for a change.

I selected 'Other Super Unleaded' as I just fill up at the nearest Shell/Esso/BP/Tesco when I need petrol.

If I have a choice, and the price is the same, then I'll use Shell. However Tesco 99 is usually about 5p/litre cheaper than any other SUL.

I currently use Sainsbury's Super Unleaded, which as you know is 97 RON and currently pay 107.9p. The closest Tesco that sells the 99 version is 109.9p, but is 4 miles away and I never go around those areas. my local Shell V-Power is 111.9p

So should I:

a) stick with Sainsbury's SUL
b) switch to Tesco 99 (+£1 per tank)
c) or go for the Shell V-power (+£2 per tank)

I think the 8 mile round trip I'd have to do is probably not worth the 2p I would save over V-power, so I think I've already narrowed it down to 2 tbh.

So, basically I got a simple question: Is 2 extra RONs worth an extra £2 per tank?

Gotta say I fall into the camp of not even being able to tell the difference between normal unleaded and super, let alone the subtleties of different brands!! How do you tell?!

I tend to look at it from a different point of view, many people say they can't tell the difference performance wise which is their point of view and absolutely fine but "normal" unleaded and especially the super market fuel has so much additive in it to keep the price down the actual "petrol" content is the absolute minimum, where as super is more expensive as it is of a better quality which in my eyes is better for the care of the cars engine etc and may help in its long term care. If it feels better then great but if not i can at least say i am doing another thing to care for my car.

Any one remeber the batch of "contaminated fuel" from tesco's that was highly publicised on the news a few years ago, me thinks it wasn't contaminated but supermarkets are pushing the limits of how little they can put in their fuel and simply pushed it too far ie there was too much additive and not enough fuel so the cars wouldn't run. maybe me getting scynical(?) in my old age?

Mate of mine in the trade tells me Shell has the best additives - base petrol is essentialy the same in chemical make up but its the additives which improve it.

BP Super as all the stations near me are BP was an Esso garage which i used for my old car and ran nice on Super but they were shut down for cloning cards.

There is a Shell garage not far but its always chaos in there plus my old car never ran to good on shell.

When i am out for a run and need a top up will use whatever is available

I thought it was Morrisons that had a batch of dodgy fuel?

I seem to remember 5th Gear or some consumer programme checking different fuels and deciding that supermarket fuels are often the best as supplies are used quickly and petrol goes 'off' if it lies in a holding tank for a long time.

I use Tesco superunleaded whenever possible.

Shell V max where possible, branded super unleaded if not. I Never EVER go near supermarket fuel, watery piss IMO. My wife's previous car was 'downed' by Tesco crap fuel. Coat them £ 400 to fix it.
