What fuel do you use?

Just curious what others fill their zed's up with.

The guy I bought mine off said he always used BP Ultimate so I have just continued using that and nothing else. No idea if it's worth staying with the same fuel or not and also unsure whether the £1.45p/l for Ultimate 97 is worth it over regular 95 unleaded or other 'premium' unleaded.

What're other peoples take on this?

Always a valid question, even if there must be 20 threads on the subject lerking in the search engine.

For the ///Ms 97 is a must. They are all pretty decent, tis why we have European standards. :thumbsup:

Me I use Shell Optimax and Tesco Super. Simply because those are garages I pass regularlly.

The other E85s and 86s will happily run on 95 Ron. But many prefer to pamper them with Super too.

Then we have the increasing ethanol content to consider, which is changing right now. If any one has the low down on the new bio fuels that would add a worthwhile addition to this thread. :)

I just use standard unleaded, usually from Costco as they're always the cheapest.

I had this exact conversation with a mate today. He owns a Golf R and only ever uses Shell V power. He said it's the best fuel and he doesn't care that it costs £1.40 a litre :o He only uses the car for commuting aswell. Hardly seems worth it.
 
I always us ethe 'marginal gain' argument when this comes up.
i.e. if you're looking for a few extra 10ths at the Ring then maybe 98/super is the way to go.
Otherwise, save your pennies.

A relevant anaelogy; I always laugh at the cyclists here in Holland with the expensive carbon wheels on their €4k+ Pinarello Dogma bikes. They always blast away from me at the lights/bridge/whatever, but I always end up passing them 10km further up the road. Go figure.

Tesco's Momentum is my favourite due to price and decent quality, but every 5th tank or so I get it near to 0 miles and fill up with Shell V-Power. Does it matter, probably not, do I feel better by doing it? Yes! This may be placebo, but I could swear the engine feels smoother, specially at idle..

Although last time I filled up at Tesco's at £1.33/litre, I decided to fill up with V-power from now on (I'll save a fiver with something else instead). Makes me feel good for 'treating' the car. Also, every time I fill my tank with Shell V-Power I get a free Costa drink and regularly get 'surprise £1.50 off' with the app, so all things considered, not that much more.

I used Shell V-Power briefly, but it's "only" 98RON and has cost sh*t-loads more for the last couple of years - and now my Shell Card doesn't even work because they have "invented" a new sort of incentive (or is that scam)? :lol:

V-Power is 99RON.

The new incentive might be free Costa drinks, I guess? I seem to get free drinks from the Shell app every time I fill up and £1.5 off a day or so after I filled up, which I usually use in the next visit.

That's fine if you want a Costa, but I'd never pay what they charge - maybe that is why Greggs are having good trading results :o

I'm just waiting for my tank to get nearer empty before I use my Tesco 10p a litre off coupon! :lol:

Those coupons are the best. I never manage to spend anywhere near £60 at Tescos in one go, so I don't usually get them :(
 
My Zed (and my old Focus RS) has to get used to running on 95. Played with other fuels in my Puma and Focus RS when I commuted around 140miles round trip a day - whatever I put in it cost about the same £s per mile.

High quality fuels cost more but burned better and the performance - by miles per gallon was better and a full tank lasted a few miles longer. Performance 0 - infinity might have been better but not so I could tell the difference away from the lights!
 
If mine would take red diesel I’d fill to the neck but unfortunately not!! I use BP regular. Tried the ultimate for a few fills but saw no difference.
 
I always use a premium fuel usually Shell VPower but thats just because i pass a shell garage on the commute.
For the 6000 miles i drive annually the VPower costs around £100 more for a years driving. But you do get more money/points on their loyalty app so get more money off.
At the end of the day its the same as putting oil in during the oil change. Some people put in Castrol Edge at £90 and some people put in unknown brands at half the cost as long as it says that it meets the BMW spec.
Will you notice the difference? Probably not, will there be a long term effect? :fuelfire:

My Focus RS was at 198.5K when I traded it so I would say no. Bar for a tune on a rolling road to sort a failing coil pack and tracking lead; and two thermostat covers over the years (plastic - I ask you!) no engine work in that time. I did change the fuel pump at 180K - tank out what a faff - and the filters pump filters were clear.
