Hi guys im thinking of changing my exhaust ive heard the best option is too remove the back boxes and go cat back straight through?

anyone got a video of what this sounds like mine is a 2.5. or any other ideas? i have seen stainless manifolds on ebay and cat deletes but would this put a error up on my dash etc thoughts and pictures/videos of what people are running, would like a m sport rear bumper, i have monkey tips but think my car would look great with quad monkey tips.

YouTube is your friend along with a search on the forum.

Plenty have custom built ones from a variety of vendors.

Can't help more but I've decided to keep mine stock as it sounds awesome enough and I like being in stealth mode when chilling.

When I want more noise I go faster

that one sounds amazing, may have to go down this route may just have monkey tips then straight to the cats and manifolds! i would have thought it would have been alot louder without a backbox but seems the cats must eliminate some of the noise
 
I had my rear silencer removed by a company called style dynamics in Hayes. Can't praise enough. Makes the car sound 100 times better. Only took a couple of hours and was relatively cheap. Would defiantly recommend if your in the London area!!
 
How much would people say is the going rate for the removal of the rear silencer? £150?

Got mine done at a friend of a friends muffler shop here in the US it cost me 60$ to remove the resonator and put in a cheapy ebay muffler. 8)
 
The tips won't change the sound. It's the removal of the rear silencer that makes the difference. Tips are just cosmetic.
 
cool, also ive seen the stainless exhaust manifolds on ebay what are they like do they make much difference? i would like to remove the cats but dont want any emissions or engine management light troubles etc, so i would just keep cats then what size pipe from cat back? 2", 2.5" then the tips, has anyone done this? does it drone on motorways etc?

I am in the middle of fabricating a custom 2-1/2" dual system using headers , dual high flow metallic cats and rear silencer.
It will be fully sensored ie pre cat sensors in the header and post cat sensors , obviously after the cats.

To answer your questions the header will greatly increase flow by firstly removing the very restrictive OEM cats and secondly by straightening out the piping in the exhaust tract(take a look under your bonnet and see how restrictive the stock manifold is compared to a picture of the eBay headers)
You will need to have both pre and post cat sensors working in order not to get CEL or try one of the O2 simulators to trick the ECU into thinking all sensors are operational.
Not sure about the drone but if yours is a roadster who cares , turn up the hi-fi or drive faster :D

I was thinking of Stüber , but I will go for removing the back box .. cheaper, and the sound result is great (from the video above) ..
I am correct, the bad think of doing it on a 3.0i is that removing back box can not be undone, contrary to 3.0 si ..
 
Surely you can get plates welded to the standard system so it can be a bolt on and off back box or straight through.
