Hi guys, can anyone confirm on 2.5 engined cars from late 2006 onwards, would they all be "SI" spec, 215bhp?? I was looking at one for sale, but it's advertised as 2.5 sport, 57 plate, 177bhp. Does this sound possible? Thanks

That’s possible, I don’t think the missing power is easy to restore either :?

No, I think the difference is twin vanos, amongst other things, no engine piccy in the advert though.
40bhp, more torque & at lower revs, must make the difference between the two quite noticable though.

I have a 2007 2.5 se. 177 bhp — I had a z3 2.8 before - for me this seems amply quick enough in comparison. Although I did drive my brothers e89 2.5 and did notice it was more perky. The 2000 2.8 z3 was definitely twin Vanos - not sure but thought the 2.5 z4 was as well. Ps. My Daily driver is an Alpina d3 biturbo. :D

Yes, the 215bhp engine is the 2.5Si, the 177bhp is the 2.5i. Sport is just the trim level which means you get M-Sport seats, steering wheel and suspension.

Oh OK, so you can def get the 177 in the later 2007/2008 cars - only the SI is 215?

You can get either version in facelift cars AFAIK. The facelift took place in early 2006.

If you see a 2.5i advertised with 192bhp it will be a pre-facelift, which uses an earlier generation of engine.
