What don't I like about the M

So having owned the car for a couple of weeks now and done a good few miles there are a few little things that are bugging me:

1. Auto lock doors, ugh, can these be turned off?
2. SatNav is pretty dire, but worst of all is the voice, can this be turned off? I have the sound to minimum (though still pretty loud) but haven't found a way of turning it off completely
3. iPod connection - I have some sort of connector in the glove compartment that allows me to play music, but doesn't display tracks or allow any meaningful control of the iPod. What is the best solution for this?
4. The battery in the boot - is that really the best location they could find?
5. Filling up with fuel - seems to be quite hard to get it properly full with the pump cutting out many times. Is this a case of "they all do that sir"?

But apart from these niggles it is bloody brilliant!

1-door locks are programmable by each key or as a whole.
2-prefer my TOMTOM for that very reason
3-call a sparky
4-why is it a problem?
5-with a bit of practise, achieve MAXIMUM PENETRATION 100% without any twists... this was the only solution I found

1. Not found a way yet, but car-jacking is on the rise (esp. cars like the ///M) so am happy to have this!

2. The voice can be turned off by setting the route, then pressing down the right-had knob once, (to display 'Instruction') then holding down again for a couple of seconds until you see a sign of a crossed-out speaker. Though this only turned off the voice for that route and you'll need to keep turning it off for each drive....unless anyone else has a trick to switch it off permanently?

3. Not sure but someone on here is bound to know.

4. I think the logic was better weight distribution?

5. Doesn't happen with mine - have you tried different companies' pumps?

Enjoy! :driving: :driving: :driving:

The battery is actually at the back to maintain 50:50 weight distribution IIRC... And in the boot because of the exhaust as said. In a non///M it is under the boot floor on the right.

As for the iPod, many swear by an intravee 2 and Alpine iPod integration unit as recommended above too... So much so I just bought one off another forumite :D

As for fuelling, I find mine only cuts out repeatedly when the tank is very low - not sure why it does this, but mostly it's fine.

Can't complain about anything much , could do with battery in engine area as you've said , there'd be more room in boot for wife's stuff then !!

What's the wife got to do with anything ?

No problems at all then

As others,Bing etc said...the battery is in the boot in all models for weight distribution, nothing more(and due to the m's quad exhaust, they couldnt sink it into the floor, like non-m's).
Intravee best for i-pod,is the general op.
Never had any problem fueling up,with the m or my prev 3.0.
My doors autolock is switched off in the menu(done via obd)

I'm slightly dubious about the weight distribution claim, I suspect that is a convenient excuse and it was mainly just the easiest place to put it.

After all what does a battery weigh compared to a driver and passenger?

Re. reprogramming the locks - is that a dealer thing only? And as for it being for security, well I'd rather make the decision: there is a button I can press after all.

I'll look into the Inntravee, thanks.

If you get an intravee for ipod integration then you can change settings like the lock on drive away etc. If not then yes dealer can set the options for you

My biggest gripe of the time it takes to warm up before I can take the loud peddle over 3k. Water temp comes up quick, but oil temp (more important) takes for ever.

Think the batt weighs quite a lot?! Isn't it like 35lbs? But yes it's prob there out of ease....

It would be easier to put it in the engine bay. BMW have always aimed for 50:50 weight distribution, the battery is one of the heavier components that can be placed without effecting it's function.
I wouldn't be surprised if its on the right hand side because for most countries the car is left hand drive so it balances out the driver somewhat

My old 840 had two in the boot, one each side behind the carpets, I'm glad I never needed to replace them s it needed to be done in pairs.

Batteries in the boot seems to be a common mod for American muscle cars too, heaven knows they have enough weight up front.
Or there's the old BMW mod of putting a paving slab or bag of sand in the boot :o

After six years the 'M' has become part of my life. Never kept a car so long and so I guess I must love it to bits!

Besides it still putting a grin on my face every time I drive it :) I have especially liked the reliability of the car. Not a single issue now in over five years.

Dislikes? Some of the plastics/trim seem poorly fitted for a BMW. I would never spec electric seats in a roadster as only I use it. Front PDC should have been an option.

Should be fitted as standard

You should be shot for daring critisise the Z4M for such trivial things :x

THis a proper sports car with rattles and squeeks that costs 20k well worth above that. It has its faults.

Man up or buy a Audi and a pair of slippers
