What does the clock symbol mean?

So if mine shows the clock and says service 13400 miles does that mean it needs a service in 13400 miles or because the clock is up as well it needs oil and brake fluid one done. When I ought the car they said it had been serviced and that was October so surely it doesn't need one doing

Just to check car is a 2008 sept it had oil service ect then in 2010 then 2012 it had insp 1 and now says service 13400 miles but does show a little pic of a clock surely I'm due an oil service etc in 2014 or 13400 hitch every first then after that an insp 2
Can any one confirm as I dnt remember seeing the clock before it went in for warranty work

press the s/r button when ignition is at position one... display should then display a date... that date is when the brake fluid change is due.. should be every two years...

The clock is not reliable as its get mis-reset,etc. Mileage countdown is fine for higher mileage users for services, but in any event brake fluid is every 2 years and oil change the same.
Many end up with missed services and brake fluid / oil changes as they simply rely on the mileage countdown.

Check your service book and receipts to work out what's due.

Well I know it had oil and break fluid 2010 then inspection one 2011 sept which was earlier than 2 yrs so next would be oil again in 13400 but by looks of it no break fluid done at insp 1 should it be done? I dnt have my service book here atm. So is it ok to leave till 2 yrs after last brake fluid change or is it done miles in which case shud have been done with inspection one.

If you have a record that brake fluid was changed less than two years ago then wait until the two years are up before changing. Probably the indicator was not reset.

Aha I've recently noticed the clock icon too and hadn't gotten around to asking about it. About 2 years would make sense - it's nearly 2 years since I bought the car pre-owned from BMW.

So is this something that would usually get entered into the service logbook? I see no need to take it to BMW when it's something I can easily do myself and isn't as "logbook stamp critical" as oil changes. I only just had an oil service done 8 weeks ago! My next service is an Inspection II, but that won't be for another 23000kms (at least another year).

Anybody know of a link to Z4 specific brake fluid change instructions (I guess I should just check TIS)?
I'm assuming the indicator can be reset using INPA?

Yes it's in the service book separate to the condition based servicing. I looks like on newer cars they have extended brake servicing to 3 years. My 2011 1 series an the 3 new 3 series we have at work all have 3 years showing on the service indicator.

Related question: does anybody know the brake fluid capacity of the system? I've been searching through TIS but can't find any info on it. If I'm going to buy some I'd rather buy as close to the required amount as possible!
