What does a car manufacturer keep in the basement?

Very nice. I wouldn't mind a wander around there.
- I think the 6 series has missed its weekly dusting though !

Some lovely machinery tucked away there

There is an under bonnet shot of a huge engine, looks like a V16 engine :o

There's mention of that car in the article
Scratched and sand-ridden from the Tom Cruise’s endeavours in 2011’s ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’, a 640d convertible sits unwashed and unrepaired, the collection’s curators preferring to preserve its big-screen battle scars.

If it's the same one when I toured it, then it's the prototype for a engine to go in the range topping 7 series. It was known as a 767 and would have had over 400bhp in the late 80s.

It was a development of the M70 V12.

There'o also an M7 and M8 prototype in there, and a 7 series with the engine in the boot.

I read about the 767i a while ago, some going for back in the late 80's 8) I would love to have a wonder around with my camera.

The sixteen cylinder engine was also the proposed engine for the Rolls Royce Phantom (as BMW own RR) . IIRC, RR made only one prototype of the only Phantom with this engine. Rowan Atkinson persuaded them to allow him to use the car in one of the Johnny English films but they didn't exactly exploit its potential (at least not on camera).
