Hi everyone iv been after a cheapish Z4 as a bit of a project and came across this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/361236487784?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I mean of course the gas has to go but thought it may be a good project...im a painter by trade so bodywork aint a problem
i can get by mechanical wise.. what are your thoughts? any problems yo can foresee i suppose it will need a vic check along with
other parts/mot etc...what are your thoughts?

cheers keef

If the gas conversion has been done correctly, then there is no need to ditch it. I had an Audi TT that had been re-mapped to 265bhp running on LPG with no problems

Looks like the front took a nasty hit... you might have serious issues to get parts fitted correctly. A friend of mine has a 2.0 that had a nasty hit in the front as well and it took a specialist to get the front bumper fitted as the side mount just broke because the front end wasn't lined up 100%, which is impossible anyway. As shrutch says, this could turn into a nightmare. On top of that, you don't know exactly which parts are missing. Taking into account that you need a front end, wing and door, as well as a full respray... it might just be as much as getting a decent 2nd hand 3.0 that has not been damaged.

Exactly. You can pick up a tidy 3.0 with high miles for £4k(ish) these days, so the question is.....could the work be done to get this car to the same standard for £2000 or less? I doubt it.

Also bear in mind that a damaged car will always be worth less afterwards as well, if you ever decide to sell it.

The way I see it: there are no cheap sports cars. If they are cheap, something's wrong with it. Best you can do is save up to get a decent one and keep it well maintained. These cars are very reliable but there are a few typical issues you should be aware of (read the buyers guide!): broken rear springs, steering column issues, wheels that need refurb (especially the 108's like on this car!), foggy headlights or fog lights, faulty roof motor due to bad maintenance of the drains and a whole list of things I'm forgetting. Even with a mint 3.0i you can have expenses, which is perfectly normal for a ten year old car... I have seen more then one forum member selling the car back on after a year being fed up with the expenses because they made a bad or cheap purchase...

Thanks folks iv decided to wait for a better car..im also doing a conversion on my mgb so think i got enough on my plate at the moment :-)..thanks again

In case anyone is interested in following progress, this car is now getting an M50 + turbo swap :)

Interesting to see how this compares to Jonny Essex and the Turbo of Doom conversion.

Or which one will blow up first?! :poke:

Intresting he has done a hydraulic steering conversion already. Might be a good solution for those with sticky steering.

and gas is a higher octane so more power 8)

This is not true I'm afraid - higher octane does not lead to higher power. It's cleaner, and more resistant to early combustion, but on a normal engine any gain from that will be unnoticeable. On an engine with a higher compression ratio like the M engine then you may realise more power, but you'd never do this to an M car

Is it the same "Doom" feedback I had with my BBK conversion........theres funny and theres just plain boring and your the latter.

I'll need to look at the BBK conversion thread sometime to catch up on that one.

More of a Turbo of Doom that is faster than anything else on the road type comment than Turbo of Doom, the guys an arse for doing this and it'll all end in tears type comment.

No offence intended Jonny.
