If it's busier, or I think I might need to brake, then I just rest it gently on the throttle, or if I really think I might need to brake, I hover it up in the middle ready.
I guess in LHD cars, they get a foot rest for the right foot, but then their left is left dangling around... probably better for cruise control I suppose, especially on an automatic?

I find I can rest my right foot on the throttle a bit, but you can't put ALL your weight on it otherwise it pushes it down.
